Hello Burdastyle & Community,
There are a lot of interesting and helpful techniques in the website Resources, but I think that it is not so easy to search for specific tutorials or information. For example, I was looking for a tutorial on installing a front fly/zipper n a pair of pants, but it was not in the categories listing, and my searches turned up other things — including individual projects that apparently include the word “zipper.” I’ve also noticed that finding a particular pattern can be cumbersome. So, in the interest of encouraging access to the wealth of information and fabulous patterns, I would like to suggest the following:

1) Improved searching with the ability to limit to Resources (or some other area of the site)
2) Subcategories in Resources (zipper, FBA, etc.)
3) More categories/subcategories in Patterns, such as “Plus” and “Summer”
4) The ability to search or find patterns by a model number (02-2011-127, e.g.).

What do other users think?

I agree with your suggestions. I would love to be able to filter by issue date. I don’t know if I so much need any other pattern filters… I will often use a summer patter for winter and vice versa by switching out the fabric an sleeve length. (You can already filter plus, petite and tall sizes)

I find the resource section a particular headache. I actually find it easier to run a google search to find a BurdaStyle tutorial than actually using he site search. Good ideas jenss.

I’d love to be able to filter by actual size…so sick of looking at ‘plus size’ and finding they only go upto 52! So far i’ve only ound one that came in size 54 … I guess I’ll have to keep looking…

I would like to find dresses a lot easier. Short, long, cocktail, casual, beach would be nice categories to choose from.

I think being able to search patterns by model number is a fantastic idea. In fact I came here to suggest it myself before I saw your post! Its so hard trying to find a particular pattern!

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any improvement to the searches (as far as I can tell). I am glad to see that Burda is adding some of the patterns available on the German site. But, how will people find the ski patterns later without some improvement to the search function? I really hope that this feature can be improved; I’m sure it is discouraging.

I agree that some way to filter patterns (ex. dresses could be viewed all together or you could select categories like ‘evening’, ‘bridal’, ‘casual’, ‘work’,).

I agree, (I haven’t really used the resource section a lot) but it’s a good suggestion. Although I have been able to search by model number by copy/pasting it in the search box, or typing for example 02/2012 in the search box and getting all 40+ patterns in one issue… I like Timea Schmidt’s suggestion very much. I have also started a topic on adding a filter that will allow us to narrow the search based on knits or wovens. If you like that please comment there as well.

Really frustrating experience with a pattern search. It’s hard to believe you don’t have a pattern search to allow any word or description of the pattern to be searched by, like some of prior comments suggested ( vintage skirt, stretch pants, etc.). I think it could be much improved by tagging patterns ( occasion , stretch, asymmetric etc). Your resource section does not provide much in my opinion. Maybe you should check how much traffic you are loosing just due to this matter. Really disappointing given the size of your pattern inventory. Good luck.

I completely understand your frustration. Good news is we’re getting a new, much needed update. Bad news: it isn’t here yet. If there is something you need let me know and I can help you out.
