Hello wonderful sewers.
Is anyone out there currently, or in the past, making maternity clothing? Have you altered any BS patterns for a swelling belly? Have you made any outfits for your own pregnant body or for others? Do you seek help in this category?
I am working on a post about maternity wear and I want to include as many links as possible (from you- the community), with examples of your work. Thank you so much for reading this post & I appreciate your insight very much:)

Why don’t you try lining it? You could use a contrasting color to make the burn out pop.

I am sorry I have no pics or instructions, just a tip. When I was pregnant I found two identical long jumpers (fine merino wool) at a reasonable price. I cut off the upper part of one on them, just under the sleeves, made an case for an elastic (the adjustable type, with buttonholes in it) opening a bit the side seams…and got a comfy tunic + skirt set, less expensive than most maternity wear.

We are trying right now, and may be pregnant at the moment, but I have already made it my mission to spend my pregnancy making DIY maternity clothes as well as doing tshirt recons and stuff from Goodwill buys and putting them all on my blog. There is not enough prego stuff out there! I was so very surprised when I started looking it up cause I see prego women all the time, including girls.

Tip: If you are going to turn a pair of regular jeans into maternity jeans, don’t start with really low-rise hipsters! I did, and they just slide down my bum constantly!

Whilst I am a long way off being pregnant, I have been reading up on this a little bit out of curiosity. Vogue Pattern’s magazine had a short feature article on adjusting patterns for maternity although I can’t find where I put it! What they did demonstrate was an adjustment on a t-shirt where they made the front piece longer at the bottom and then gathered it to make it the right length to allow room to expand for a pregnancy belly (I think the top may have veen V8649 but don’t quote me on that). This gives you more space at the front without having the garment too loose and baggy at the back. The other advice that they gave was to look for patterns that are fitted in the bodice but loose around the belly and hips and baby doll or empire waist lines. One pattern that I’ve just made up is Vogue 1312, which would suit perfectly with a fitted bodice and a big loose skirt (it’s really nice to wear!) in the designer range I also think that V1102 would also suit. Tops like V8881, V8791, V8731 and V8651 would be suitable. The magazine had a whole list of all suitable patterns but I can’t for the life of me find it! The other adjustment I have seen is on draw-string shorts, which is to make the front panels wider and adjust with a curved/arc waistline rather than just going straight across.
