I have just noticed a bikini posted as a project for sale and as a make it, but all links lead to them selling bikinis (no pattern or instructions). Can we have a button that highlights these to the powers that be so that they can be removed or marked appropriately, thankyou. Link for this is http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/summer-sizzle-ruffle—2

Yeah, we certainly need the opportunity to mark those as well. Ebikini is a retailer and its products mass-produced so they are just using Burdastyle as free advertising.

Actually, this posting does raise an interesting point. It is becoming harder to distinguish between legitimate postings and advertisements, now that the “For Sale” option is available. There seem to be no clear guidelines for what is legitimate and what is not. I agree with the postings above, the ebikini is not, but I had to look at all the postings by this individual and follow through the links before I could be sure. This highlights again the need for some kinds of rules or guidelines about this.

Extend the “open source sewing” analogy for all it’s worth. If software doesn’t come with sourcecode, it’s not “open source”. If no pattern is forthcoming, it’s not “open source sewing.”

Amen to Jerwin! I’m grateful that others find this an abuse of the site. Thanks from Nehmah

I agree with Gedwoods that we need more exact guidelines. With many projects like this one it is kind of hard to tell http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/my-fair-lady-pink-bra-knicker-and-suspender-belt-set. She says on her site that she is a student and this is just a side business but the webpage her project links to seems to be too professional.

I think it’s bad when businesses are using this site as free advertising but I’m a little disappointed that BS is still letting them do that. No business will pay for advertising if they can have it for free which is bad for all of us in the end.

Hm, I agree that it’s necessary with guidelines.

For me there’s a majour difference between My fair Lady and e-bikini ans buy-lingeri.net. The first one is OK for me, the other two are not. I think it’s because MFL is active on the website as a PERSON rather than as a company, although she promotes her lingerie here. But I get the feeling it’s all designed and hand made by herself, and she studies fashion design (lingerie).
Later on though, when her company has grown and more people are involved in it I might change my opinion, but then hopefully then she won’t promote her website but rather post experiments here…
Nevertheless, since the site is open for those who want to promote their merchendise there has to be guidelines about limits etc, and I am too a bit disappointed that big companies advertising for free here seems OK with the Burdastyle team (or is there just too much work with the new website at the moment?).

Hi i just noticed that you mentioned about my lingerie set. I honestly am not using the website for free advertising and i am really sorry if it appears that way, i taught myself to sew through burdastyle and think its great to be able to see peoples creations as they come along, i was simply just sharing my designs like everybody else. I started a course in contour fashion last year (lingerie and swimwear design) i would never try to take advantage of burdastyle. I am flattered that you say that my website looks too professional but it really is just me running it, i do everything from designing the lingerie, pattern cutting, sewing, editing photos, modeling the lingerie and designing the website. its only been up a couple of months and was just set up as a way to try and earn a bit whilst i am studying.

Hm, just want to make sure that I was clear enough: I think the My Fair Lady-lingerie by Reggiebaby do belong here since they are designed and hand made by an active member, who inspires and adds to the community.
I didn’t mention that I really like the new features that help people who make things that they sell through their own companies, it’s really great if Burdastyle can help small, creative companies survive and grow.
I do not, however, like the companies that simply use Burdastyle for free advertising… therefor: guidelines, please!

Sorry, I hope I did not offend you. I just wanted to show that it is a very thin line between promoting own handmade products or advertising. It’s not always obvious. We certainly need guidelines to clearify that.

I agree about the guidelines and I would prefer them to be rather strict. On some days, the projects section looks like shop which takes some of the fun and inspiration out of it.

Guidelines are needed, but I don’t think they need to be strict… just very clear.

I browse & shop online for inspiration all the time, although I would get bored if I saw a bunch of the same item just in a different colors. Personally, I would draw the line at anything mass produced on Burdastyle.

May I suggest that a way to influence the status of the burdastyle projects page is to post some projects of your own? Inspire us! :)

He everyone! we agree guidelines are needed and we will start drafting that up! We are also looking into including the “report as inappropriate” button on projects and patterns. I hope that helps!
