Hi has anyone ever attempted to make a batwing sleeve 70-80s style dress? If so could you share some ideas and tips or a pattern if you have one?
Thanks

Take the Lydia or the Idit, lengthen, and add gussets under the arm. Or, make the sleeve and bodice one peice with a very wide curve running from side seam to sleeve (see the Esther Cardigan).
There’s a great project on Sewing Republic for a grey knit top with gussets under the arm. check out the instructions to get an idea of what your pattern pieces need to do.

There is a free pattern for a batwing top at fitzpatterns http://www.fitzpatterns.com/collections/free/products/0408-kate-batwing-top-sewing-pattern
You could lengthen this to a dress. Happy sewing!
