I have a beautiful yellow pencil skirt that I have never worn as I have nothing to wear with it. Im going to a wedding in August, and would love to make a top to go with the skirt. Does anyone have any thoughts on colours? It would be pretty much impossible to get a fabric in the same shade of yellow, and I would like to steer clear of black (as its a summer wedding) and white.. Any help would be much appreciated – im really stumped on this one!!

    A nice dark gray could work and look nice. Maybe a blue or navy? It would really depend on the shade of yellow… although dark gray does not really scream “summer”, maybe the lightness of the skirt will balance it out?

    I was going to suggest navy as well. Or some sort of pastel color. But yeah it really all depends on the shade of yellow that it is. Creme might look cute, but since it is a wedding probably not a good idea.

    Thanks a million for all the suggestions.. the shade of yellow is kind of a gold, but has a slight bit of a lime green tint to it.. really difficult to describe! I think navy could be really good with it.. or maybe purple to brighten the whole outfit up.. Ill post pics as soon as I have something completed – at least I have a better idea of what colour fabric to be looking for!! Thanks again!

    Purples, Blues and grays look nice with yellow. Combinations of blue-gray, or purple-gray are the best. The general rule I go with, is that if it’s more of a pastel yellow, choose a richer/darker color. The more bright/rich a yellow, like mustard, choose a more subtle purple or blue. I really love the combination of yellow with cornflower blue.

    Grey. It looks awesome with yellow. White-goes with everything. Orange-if your skin tone can handle it. Indigo-see above
