you’ve just been dumped.
you’re about to enter finals week of an extremely busy quarter at your university.
you’ve recently had a family member in the hospital.
you need to write pages 2-25 of a final term paper by March 17.
and you cannot get enough time off work to stop feeling like a crazy person.

If anyone knows of any kind of magical, feel-better garment that I can whip up in my (non-existent) free time, I would deeply appreciate it!!

Do other people out there have favored types of feel-better/oh-poor-me sewing they turn to in times of duress? Or do you become too frustrated to make anything?

I start on the customer sewing! ;)

Peg bags and tea cozies, oven mitts and aprons, shoppers and Christmas stockings! Use up the scraps to make things you can give later a prezzies.

Oh, and have some ((((((HUGS)))))) and I love the parrot!

Thanks! He’s my green cheeck conure, Wilbur. When I sew (I live in a studio, so we’re all in the same room), he starts chirping when I run the machine faster, probably due to the motors slight wine. He’s my buddy.

nothing beats a new dress, but they’re not instant gratification (at least not when you do them right). maybe a comfy new hooded sweatshirt/pullover? a good one of those seems to cheer me up a bit. that or stash diving/actually sewing the project you gathered all the fabric, trims, and notions for seems to be spirit boosters.

hugs hope things get better for you!

I know I’m a new sewer but I whipped up a tote bag from a Cath Kitson pattern very easily and was so pleased with the result I just HAD to find an excuse to go out and trot around the store with it ;) brightened my day very much.

I suggest you pull out all your fabrics and patterns and spread them out in a circle with you in the middle. Just sit and look and let your mind wander until you find something that makes you feel positive. I would avoid anything too complex though – you have plenty of work on your hands and a lot of personal stressors as well. And make sure to spend some time with a good friend as well!

    Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks! I am feeling somewhat better, but I have a busy week coming up for sure! But maybe that’s a good thing, in some ways.

I like to sew small items while watching television. Doll clouthes mainly. A little embroidery project always gets my creative juices flowing. Hope things get better. <3

Thanks! I started working on this simple top: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=791\

I’m using some cotton quilting fabric that I picked up before I really started sewing and understood that this wasn’t the best fabric for most garments. But I love the colors, and am glad I’ve found a use for it. The down side is that this silhouette isn’t that flattering on me when I try it on (not terrible, just sort of completely hides my waist, making me look a little wider than usual). So I’m going to cut the pieces in a bit more fitted manner to improve it… it’s becoming a more complicated project than I thought it would be! I may not be able to get back to it until after the 17th, but at least I’ve got something to look forward to!

Quilting cotton will be ideal for that. Just make sure you wash it first as it can shrink.

Update on the Sew, Mama, Sew cotton top: even though the pattern on the site is based on your own measurements, the chest band and straps are TOO BIG to fit me correctly (because they are each 5" wide, regardless of the other measurement). I was wondering why I couldn’t get them to lay flat on my chest like they do in the examples, and then I experimentally folded them in half and ta-da, good bye bizarre puckering! So anyways, I’m still working on the top that should have been a simple one, making many changes along the way…

Acey if they dumped you they weren’t worth it. Lets face it, they are never going to find many other women in this day and age that CAN actually sew on a damn button!

I like making toys when I’m feeling miserable. Or a happy coloured blanket for our very Emo kitten. It is hard for him to plan evil when sat on a happy coloured blanket.
