I’m going to a movie premiere for a film I helped design for, and the dress code is “red carpet”. I would love to make a satin old Hollywood style dress but don’t know where to look for a pattern- simplicity and etc are all modern prom looking when it comes to formal wear.
Anyone have suggestions for a 30’s or 40’s gown pattern?

try Butterick 5182. It reminds me of that ‘30s slinky Hollywood look.’

Have you looked at Vogue patterns, they have a lot of options, including vintage repro. You may be able to use one of their patterns. I hope you find something, can’t wait to see the finished project!

I made a scarlet gown for my niece’s prom (check my studio under Prom Queen in Scarlet) – the theme for the evening was Hollywood (vintage). I used a retro Butterick pattern. The result was gorgeous and very appropriate. Everyone raved about her gown. Do check it out.
