Log in to your BurdaStyle account.
In the section titled “Patterns” select the pattern you would like to download.
If the pattern is free:
1. Click on “Get It”
2. Select in the Download section either “print at home” or “print at copy shop.” The download dialogue will pop up prompting you to choose either “open” or “save as.” We suggest choosing “save as” to insure that you have the pattern on your computer.
3. From there, print the pattern on your printer or at a copy shop, assemble the tiles, and you are set to cut and sew.
If the pattern has a charge:
1. Click “Add to Cart” The item will be added to your cart.
2. When you are done shopping, go to your shopping cart to complete the purchase.
3. You will see a list of the pattern(s) you have chosen to buy. At the bottom of this list you will see the “Secure Checkout” button. (You may have to update your billing/shipping/credit card/PayPal info.)
4. When buying a pattern, make sure both the billing and shipping addresses are marked as the primary address.
5. Click “Continue”. Your pattern will now be available for download.
6. Save the pattern on your computer.
7. Open the pattern, print it out, assemble the tiles, and sew it up.
If you experience problems when attempting to download, try clearing your web browser’s cache and click “Save to Disk” instead of “Open When Downloading.” If this does not work, please contact us at answers@burdastyle.com.

Hi – this is my first time downloading and printing from this site – can someone tell me what is involved with the “Print at Copy Shop” option? Do you just save the PDF file to a data stick and take it along to a print shop and they can print it? Will they know what page settings etc are required by looking at the file or will I need to tell them, and if so – what are they?
I will be greatful for any tips! Thanks! xxxx

Hey NessyS
you can save it to your desktop and use the fedex web platform to upload it or you can bring it to a large scale print shop and ask them to print it “as is” for you

The pattern instructions for A plus A line skirt turn out strange for me as if the computer can’t read the encoding. I get strange characters whenever an integer or a punctuation mark is used. Things like strange “a” with marks or lines above them slotted in for, frankly, information necessary to actually construct the garment. I updated adobe reader so I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do in this circumstance.

I downloaded some of the instructions for some other free patterns to check. Only the “A plus A line” instructions don’t work so far. I really don’t want to risk it and do any of the “pay” patterns only to have them at the whim of adobe reader. Is there an alternative that can be sent to me? (jpeg, bitmap, microsoft work, psd)

I just purchased a “pay” pattern for a tie. I got the instructions, but did not receive the pattern.
How do I get the pattern?

I bought a pattern for four dollars thinking I would get a pattern and instead get a download that I have to print on 37 pages and use up all my ink, I shouldn’t have to pay for that! And how can I find the picture of the darn pattern on burda style? I can’t locate it, I would like to see a photo again before I begin to sew. It is download 6059 34-46.

Jane – that’s half the purpose of this site and the fact they’re downloadable patterns is mentioned everywhere, not just in this post – there’s even instructions on how to print and arrange and how to make your own.
I’m interested to see how you think pattern sharing would work by anything other than download and print.

And here’s the pattern I believe you’re looking for:
http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/the-karen-cardigan—2, it’s right there on first page of patterns too.
Next time take a few minutes to investigate before you purchase. There’s even free patterns on here from both Bstyle and our fantastic members, which would have given you an idea of what to expect.
