Without being able to see the problem, I can’t say for sure. Have you wound the bobbin correctly, put it in the shuttle the right way round, and threaded it through the spring properly?

Do you know which model it is? It should have a serial number on it. If you give me this, I should be able to find you a complete instruction manual to download.

Your machine appears to be a model 28K, built in the Kilbowie factory just outside Glasgow in 1936. It’s one of 15000 assigned it’s serial number on or just after 10 December that year. Much the same age as this one, my own 1936 28K; http://www.diceyhome.free-online.co.uk/KatePages/Resources/machinegallery/withtable.JPG

You might want to give the tension disks a good clean, and the shuttle area, and lubricate it… And take a look at this ebay auction for some a service manualhttp://cgi.ebay.com/SINGER-MODELS-127-128-27-28-SERVICE-REPAIR-MANUAL-/390305868156?trksid=p4340.m263&trkparms=algo%3DSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn%3D10%26pmod%3D390303435346%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D8496741569683631837 that will help you to service the machine and set the timing, if that is off:

I had a similar problem with my machine which is an old Singer Vibrating Shuttle machine, but it was because I was threading it incorrectly. I was actually putting the thread through a loop that wasn’t correct, even though it seemed to be the right one.

I don’t know if that would be any help since you said you threaded it correctly maybe it’s a different problem that causes the same thing. Goodluck though!
