I’m just a bit confused about rating individuals projects. First of all, I’d like to know the purpose of “rating”. Is it to say how much we appreciate that type of project, how well it was completed (whether or not we appreciate the particular style), seeing as we all have different tastes and preferences.
What if we’d like to share our projects but we don’t want others to criticize it. Personally if I don’t appreciate something I won’t say anything. It’s really not nice seeing as the person may have put a lot of time and effort into a project.

I agree with you. I absolutely hate the rating system. Sometimes I see projects with really low ratings and it just feels mean. Pattern ratings make sense, but deciding how much merit should be given to an individual person’s work, and arbitrarily so, doesn’t seem helpful. If something isn’t a good fit for the site, it should be reported as spam, otherwise I don’t like the idea of deciding what is and isn’t a good project. Why isn’t a "favorites"button enough? Instead of sorting by highest rated we could sort by most favored.
