Petite and Petite plus patterns, size charts, proportions, etc. Where are they on the site? Clothing at stores for our segment of society is limited and the styles are never quite as nice as those found in other sizes, so when there’s such a great resource as Burda style that really caters to creative people in sewing and designing I was hoping to find more patterns for petites. Sadly, the same appears to be true here as “out there”

I’m just a beginner and learned to sew the basics just last year. I’m really excited about learning more and I’m searching for patterns specifically designed for petites and petites plus. I’m a size 12. I may be short but I’m not “mini” where many would like to be! :-)

just wondering how other members at burdastyle feel about the petite issue.

Hello and welcome to the world of sewing!

Here is the size chart information: Find Your Burda Size.

Also, check out Adjust Patterns for Mixed Sizes and Burda Pattern Alteration for Petites.

Now I know this is not the cure all for having a pattern ready made for a specific body type, but all patterns regardless if they are specific to height or figure shape will have to be adjusted. Even if you are 5ft 7in (170.18cm) tall and have a perfect figure, there will have to have something done to it for a perfect fit. There are some patterns available that will include petite adjustments on the pattern or even petite only along with plus size patterns, which Burdastyle has. Keep in mind that your “ready to wear” size is different than your sewing pattern size and this will even vary from pattern company to pattern company. I know, can it get any more confusing?

My advice is to know that you are going to make mistakes along the way and that’s okay. Many sewers that have been sewing for years and years and years will still make mistakes and get frustrated, it’s how we learn. So take a deep breath and learn to laugh at your self when you have to rip threads out of an almost finished project at 3a.m.. Then come back here to Burdastyle and vent, cry, ask for help or brag on that finally finished project. I hope this covers some of the sewing mystery’s for you. Keep sewing with a smile!
