Hey there,

I am trying to research 2 patterns with the intention of purchasing either it if I can find the information I need from other members who have sewn them (very important aspect of the site). For the record the patterns are 5/2010 Tiered Maxi Dress #113 & 5/2010 Tiered Mini Dress #114 and I can’t find the link on either of the pattern pages to show ALL of the member projects based on these patterns. I happen to know there are lots of projects (I could swear I saw a page full of projects based on one or the other just yesterday) but for the life of me I can’t fint them now. The search feature doesn’t work…..

Ah-hah! I just stumbled on into the projects page for the mini dress in this way: I searched for using the entire name of the pattern (5/2010 Tiered Mini Dress #114) and got nothing (which is crazy… the pattern should atleast show up). I removed the #114 and found the pattern PROJECT page which still has the tab at the top for all the projects based on this project.

I think there is a fundamental site architecture issue here. ALL projects based on burdastyle patterns should be searchable via the pattern page. Projects should be linked to burda patterns, not to burda projects. It is not enough to see only the three most recent projects based on a pattern, and the search feature is almost entirely useless (except that I did manage to find the patterns burdastyle project page using it).

Is no one going to reply to this? I completely agree with wzrdreams, i can’t find project pages for patterns anymore and it’s driving me crazy. Also can we please bring back the ability to search by material or sift by burdastyle magazine vs burdastyle vs member patterns?

AND i posted this same topic in a different forum and apparently the forum doesn’t actually have any links that lead to it so I can’t even see my topic anymore.

    thank you.

I totally agree with you. Where can I see ALL projects based on the pattern? It is, as wzrdreams said, avery important aspect of the site. It showed me how you can make alterations and how it looks like in different types of fabrics. Where are the free patterns, which users put online on burda? In the old version they were easy to find. Where are they now? I also liked that you could klick on “view all” at the burda patterns. Now you can only see one picture and have to click on the next to see them. I liked the old style of the burda site. Now with the new one everything became more complicated and things you were used to have apparently vanished. Please make it more easy to find what you are searching for. Or just upload the old version. Thank you

I am totally with you guys. I always thought being able to see other sewists’ creative takes on the patterns was one of the best features that this site had to offer! It really set it apart from other pattern stores. Getting inspired by all the different member projects made from specific patterns was so helpful. I’m much more likely to buy a pattern if I can see all the cool garments that can be made with it by people other than the company selling it.

What about the ability to search by material? or to search for burdastyle patterns versus burdastyle magazine patterns? shouldn’t those still be options we can access?

To make the pattern store as clear and easy as possible, we have decided to remove the fabric category. This is also because most patterns can be used for a wide range of materials so this category doesn’t make much sense in the pattern store. At the moment, for similar reasons, the option to filter BurdaStyle vs burda style magazine patterns has been removed. We will consider this for future enhancements. Best, BurdaStyle

    Hi all,

Our community manager, jilleighlum’s post should answer most of your questions but we wanted to add some info.

The glitch occurred because, as wzrdreams pointed out, a member project based on a pattern was actually linked to the project page of a pattern and not to the actual pattern page. We wanted to combine the project page and pattern page of our pattens in to one page, easy to access and with all information necessary for a pattern. In the past, we have had many problems with having a project page and a pattern page as many users search a pattern and don’t even realize there is a project page and therefore missed important information such as instruction, images and amount of fabric. Now with that being improved, we temporarily lost the ability to display all projects based on a pattern but this has been fixed. Our technical team is now working on adding all patterns to the list to choose from when you base a project on another project. So in the future, you will be able to link a project directly to the pattern page. We expect that to be added this coming week.

As wzrdreams also points out, our search engine is not very good. We are completely aware of this and wish we had all the time and resources in the world for enhancements and assure you that it is on our list of enhancements to come.

We hope you are now finding all the projects based on a pattern and we agree with all of you, this is one of the best aspects of the site! We love seeing all the amazing versions of the patterns!

    Your BurdaStyle team

I’m working on my dress now and still having problems…. I ended up buying the short version because I like the bodice detail, but I want to make the long version and I’m having trouble finding the instructions for the long version. After way too long searching I finally found the project page. The project page is not linked to the pattern page in any way other than through other members projects.

After reading the response above I’m still confused about which page we are supposed to link our projects to… pattern or project?

I really don’t see the point of having a pattern AND a project page. It is very confusing and redundant, not to mention disingenuous. Burdastyle magazine patterns as projects do not represent actual member or Burdastyle.com projects. If the point is to push pattern sales, the confusion it causes (by having the instructions nowhere near the pattern) actually hurts the goal of promoting the patterns.

      Hi wzrdreams,

We agree with you! It is very redundant to have both a project page and a pattern page, which is why we have comprised all information for a pattern to a single pattern page. Since we do not like to remove information from the site, we have decided to keep all the old project pages for patterns but the newer patterns do not have a project page.

The instructions to the patterns can be found on the pattern page. This will also shortly be the case for the older patterns as our technical team is working on linking to them straight from the pattern page. So all information is in one place.

      Hi again,

I just wanted to let you know that the link to download the instructions are now on the pattern page of each pattern. No need to search for the project page anymore!

Is it possible that the link from the pattern page to the members’ projects is lost again? I’m looking at 6/2010 skirt 112, and the “view all skirts” button takes me back to the skirts page. I don’t think there are no projects for this pattern – I found some through google image search! Thanks for your help.

      Hi red-lia,

The button didn’t get lost. The button that you are clicking (view all skirts), is actually supposed to take you back to the skirt listing as it is the button to view all skirt patterns we have.

The fact that you are not seeing any projects is because there are no projects based on this pattern. If you look at this pattern for instance: http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/anda, you’ll see that the button is in fact working.

It is strange that you are finding projects on google search. Could you attach links so we can take a look?
