Ahm – congratulations to the new web site, you can see that burdastyle has put a lot of work into this, lots of new features yet to be tried out, bigger pictures, better font etc etc – but noooow i have to say on my side here it seems that NOTHING WORKS.

- can’t loggin straight away, it took me a few days to discover that I get out of the ‘sorry, there’s a server problem’ page to be logged in via the ‘register now’ button
- my profile was a bit messed up, boxes ticked/ unticked where they hadn’t been, pictures gone…
- adding/ deleting favourites doesn’t work
- my former favourite how to’s have gone apart from one.

I know these and other things have been mentioned are are being looked at and fixed. (Just hope the same guys won’t be updating my bank’s internet banking site next…)

Apart from that I think it would be nice to keep the pictures of projects or other pictures chosen by the members as the opening tab instead of the wall comments and activities. The communication part of the website is great, but it’s not facebook, really.

I agree… there are loads of things that don’t work well enough yet… I just tried to add a project to my favourites, but I keep getting a message that I need to be logged in to do it, well I am. And one of the patterns I’ve uploaded is still as it seems uploaded by another member and under another name than I gave it (she made a top from it and I’m sure it’s not that she’s uploaded a copy of it, it’s a website transfer-problem). Plus loads of the How-to’s I’ve favourited before are not among “Techniques I use”, where they should be. I hope the website-guys solve these problems soon, so that we get to see what the website is really like, a bit hard to tell now with all the bugs!

Linked to my profile on the old site:
      http://old.burdastyle.com/patterns/show/4009

Linked to someone else on the new site (plus given a new name…?):
      http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/a-rose-is-a-rose

I hope you’re all holding out, launching the new website seems like totally insane work…

(I put the url:s under Elainemays post earlier today, so it may already be reported).

I’m sorry, but I don’t remember what project I tried to favourite.

Some of the techniques may be under my favourite projects now, I didn’t realise that at first, and I don’t remember all of them, but I favourited one again already, so it’s ok.

Okay: here’a a project I tried to favoutire where I got the same message: http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/pussy-bow-blouse
I had been logged in from scratch, and I use Firefox (see version below).

And this project I tried to favourite but nothing happened. I tried several times, but it’s as if the button isn’t active: http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/summer-dress—6

    Ok, another bug:

I tried to look at another members profile (by clicking on her name in the upper right corner of the screen) after viewing her Techique and got this message twice:

“The change you wanted was rejected. Maybe you tried to change something you didn’t have access to.”

I got this, too. I think that message always occurs when the technique does’t reall belong to the person (got mixed up, too). I also had this problem when I wanted to see the profile of a person whose comment on a creation is listed underneath the wrong creation. And to add another bug: A lot of creations are not linked to the patterns they are based on any more, so you can’t see the projects made from it when looking at the particular pattern’s page.

Good morning, I have also been told to log in. About 1/3rd of my requests to move to another page on the site result in finding myself elsewhere. So far, the one good thing has been a lack of bogus new member posts with line after line of spam ads. i am not looking forward to September, or October, or whenever Munich finally decides to activate the “Real/New” burdastyle.com. Cordially, (but frustrated) Nehmah

And BS, could you please make the computer-wiz’s activate the Pop-up ad for Burdastyle only when you first access the site? I get it at about every 2:nd/3rd page and it’s getting really annoying to have to click it off… (I thought I had an anti-pop-up-filter…). Thanks!

make sure you check the little “i don’t want to see this again” box before you click it away. We are also in the process of having it appear less

I did, several times, it didn’t seem to work though. Now I installed an ad-filter, so I don’t get that problem anymore… but it’s still really good that you make it happen less often :-)!

I agree with everyone…Initially I was never able to log in and would always get an error message. I only discovered how to by hitting the back arrow and miraculously I was in. There were so many issues that I decided to give I a break for a while and come back later perhaps when all the kinks were worked out. All of the images and text in my activities screen are overlapping, I am unable to change my notification settings – - keeps showing me activities that I am not following or have requested to stop following. All of my previous comments on my sewing projects are missing. Some of “My Favorite Projects” are missing. My birthday was changed… and although I love all their work, my “friends list” was already pre-populated. I totally agree with bekaem about keeping the user pages how they were. It was nice to see all the photos chosen by the member. Hopefully things will get better.

One more bug? I didn’t get any notifications in my profile that Alden replied to my posts in this discussion, which I should have according to my notification-settings (or is it only discussions you’ve started you can get notified about?). Glad I saw it anyway, thanks for all replies :-)!

It might be that I shouldn’t get any, I looked back at the settings and the only setting related to discussions is: Notify me when someone: “Posts in a discussion topic I started”.
Well, I didn’t start this one, so it’s probably not a bug.
May I make the suggestion to add “Posts in a discussion I’ve taken part in” or something like that… sometimes the most interesting discussions are started by someone else :-).

Hi Alden! I did get notifications of your replies today (sun 16th August), at 10am. So they were just a few days late :-).
Hope you all get some free time despite all the bug-work with the new site…

    Dear bekaem,

If you use Citibank online, I was one of the guys that worked on your internet banking site … and others on the team have worked on other financial sites. Sorry to break the news to you ;-)

But seriously, I just ask you to be nice, we are on the same team with the same goals – to make this website great and smooth out the rough patches that we are facing in the transition from the old data model (which could be compared to Medusa’s hair) to the new one that works.

We are working super hard to read every post in the discussions and turn them into actionable tickets that we can fix. Many of which we already know about and are actively fixing. But when we get insulted along the way, it makes us all very sad and takes us off point.

As for the banking and social networking comparison … Citibank spends millions on their website each year with large teams of developers. Facebook was recently estimated to be worth 15 billion dollars and spends as such on their website. Our budgets are just a tiny-weeny bit smaller than that, so its not such a fair comparison.

    Yours truly, george

    Hello GEID,

For what it’s worth, if sometimes frustration index gets high and the language turns dark, it really is because this site MATTERS to so many of us. I hope all of my comments and exchanges are polite, but I also sometimes feel that my language gets a teeny bit darker too, and although I don’t condone the harshness of some of the comments you guys have been getting, I understand where this is coming from. We all have lives, real lives, but a lot of us hang around on the BurdaStyle site A LOT, and we’ve invested huge chunks of our time and creative energies to make this community HUM and ROCK. I’m not saying you folks at Area17 haven’t also, but ya’ gotta understand where this is coming from, too.

That said, for myself, I think the energy and care you guys (and the BurdaStyle team!) have put into this effort is enormous and I totally appreciate it. I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes right now, I can see it’s uncomfortable, but this site (despite some fears and concerns expressed) is still GOING PLACES, it’s still breaking new ground in terms of what an online community can achieve, and I’m thrilled about the effort you have and are putting into it!

You really nailed it there, Gedwoods! I have wanted to make a similar comment before in the old forum, when a before unknown team member expressed feeling hurt by some of the comments. Of course they are working hard, and meaning well, but it’s important not to forget that even, or especially, the ‘darker’ comments tend to come from people who care about this site and its community and who dedicated a lot of their time and energy to it, just for the sake of it. Without wanting to be demeaning to any team member in any way, I think that should be kept in mind if and when someone, paid by Burda(style) for his/her work here, comments on the grievances of site members

You guys make the site. Without our members we would be nothing. I am so glad and honored that some many of you feel so strongly about this site, that you take the time and effort to report all of these bugs and make it a better place for everyone to exist (virtually at least).

We understand the frustration; we are human get frustrated too! We know that you don’t mean to personally offend, but when so much hard work and hours have gone into this, it is almost like our child (at least that’s the way I feel) and its sometimes hits home in a personal way.

We know you are coming from a good place with your comments, and we welcome them, just know that we are reading them. Online may be faceless, but there is a person behind the avatar :)

Thanks for all your reporting and keep it up you’re doing an awesome job!

george, that was an excellent post, and as always i luv your replies, gedwoods— but i think the responses to george are coming from the choir so far, if you catch my drift.

i don’t know, this forum as a whole didn’t used to be quite so negative (and this thread is one of the less negative of the bunch)… we live in an age where much of our communication is done electronically, and done quickly. we have the unfortunate luxury of not seeing the face of the person we are “talking” to— and i do think we would choose our words with more care if we were speaking, in the flesh, in real time, to a real human being.

tone is a hard thing to feel across a computer screen.

I tried to favorite a member of French persuasion (yes, I mean you George!) but could find no way to favorite anyone. Where are the instructions to accomplish this not-so-minor task? How else will a member in Europe or Asia know that I (in the US) finds that person’s work special? Cordially, but getting irked, Nehmah Please consider the following: It’s the accumulation of one small thing after another that is upsetting to so many members. We were led to believe that things would be much better; I’m not seeing a lot of improvement up front. Maybe in the back rooms all is going well, but out here, I must say,,, NOPE! N

I was looking for a nice coat pattern and found the free Talea pattern (thanks for that by the way :-) ). But when I want to look what other members did from this pattern and click on “view all projects based on this pattern” I see all projects based on a dress pattern (scuba or something? !). A classic bug :-)
