Hello brwnskngurl, The Burdastyle patterns online are a different part of the Burda company than what puts out the magazine patterns.
BurdaStyle.com is a subsidiary of Verlag Aenne Burda, which also owns burda style magazine.
While we are under the same umbrella, BurdaStyle.com (launched in 2007) and burda style magazine (which was Burda Modemagazine and renamed “burda style magazine” in 2009) are two different companies. We have separate concepts and teams, yet both offer sewing patterns produced by Burda. BurdaStyle.com was launched as a pilot project to target a new audience in a new market and includes many social features and a different kind of look and feel.
While similar in .PDF format to BurdaStyle.com patterns, burda style magazine patterns do have key differences
- Seam allowance: burda style magazine patterns do not have seam allowance included. Such is the standard for all burda style magazine’s printed patterns. You must add seam allowance yourself.
- Copyright Laws: burda style magazine patterns are not under the same open source umbrella as we are, and therefore are restricted in use by the copyright laws maintained under burda style magazine. You are welcome to download burda style magazine’s patterns and sew from them, but you are not allowed to use the patterns for commercial production, sell the garments sewn from these patterns, or sell or give away the patterns.
- Pattern Pricing: Our friends from burdastyle magazine found it easier to have one standard price: $5.40
Some of the patterns that we have from burda style magazine feature sizes for petite (160 cm to 168 cm) and tall (176 cm or taller) sizes. The only thing that differentiates these patterns from the regular patterns that correspond with our current size chart is the length. Depending on your height, you may need to do some minor altering if using one of these patterns.
For questions regarding Burda patterns, please contact liliane.tricard@burda.com.

If you have further inquires here please feel free to ask me here or on my wall OR you may ask by sending an email to answers @ burdastyle .com.
Happy sewing from your friendly burdastyle moderator!
