Hello!
I´m very new in sewing, but I want to make a skirt. I printed out my pattern, but on it its missing that lenghten or shorten sign..what should i do now? Should I just cut the pattern where ever and lenghten like that. It is a burdastyle pattern, Marie skirt.
Can someone help me?

This is what I generally do: find where the waist is marked on the pattern. If there is no waist marked, find the narrowest width zone and assume this is the waist (this is only for patterns that fit on the ‘natural waist’ obviously you’re out of luck if it sits on the hips). Draw a line though (width wise). Use your ruler to measure 2 cm above this ‘waist’. Draw a line parallel to the ‘waist’ line. Fold the pattern along the upper line to shorten or cut along it to spread and lengthen. Depending on the fit an easier way is just to add more hem allowance but it really depends on where your ‘extra length’ (compared to that of the pattern) is locate. Check the pattern measurements and compare them with yours to find out. Hope this helps!
