This is item #2 in my Working Wardrobe- a brown herringbone vest and pants set, lined in burgundy satin (remnants from my Leopard Trench). The vest is made from a pattern from LAST month's issue (SEPT. 2007 (earlier had said Oct 2007, but was mistaken, I think)) of La Mia Boutique (downsized and slightly modified), and the pants are made from a Schnittvision pattern. If you're really short, sewing presents a few extra challenges, but the upside is that this whole outfit required just slightly more than 1.5 meters of fabric. I had never made fly front pant s before, and after trying a few instructions I found online (Schnittvision instructions just say "make fly front") and not getting the results I wanted, I looked at a pair of jeans and just reverse engineered it. It looks fine and seems to work ok, but I must have done something wrong, because I ended up not using one of the pattern pieces :) I can't wait until Jj's design contest blouse pattern comes online so I can wear it with this!

It's great! I'm really impressed with how well you get your creations to fit, especially considering the fact that you have to make so many adaptions.

Agree on being short. Even if I didn't sew, I would need a sewing machine for all the hemming (sleeves, pants) and alterations (bust, shoulders). Or else I'd be supporting a tailor!
I can't say enough how much I love this outfit. You did a great great job on both pieces. .......... Not lots of people can wear vest and look fantastic. By the way, I couldn't find the vest pattern from my Eng.version Burda mag(oct). Which page is it? I want to make this vest badly.
......I'm not good at fly front too. Sometimes I confuse and have to consult the instruction from book.

thanks, everyone! @lauriana- i wish i could take credit for getting it to fit so well, but i just sized the vest down two sizes and it didn't need any further alterations. the schnittvision software just did its usual magic- i put in my measurements and the resulting pattern just fit perfectly! i would never try to alter a burda pants pattern to fit because they're sooo long-- just too many places in the hip, crotch, thigh, rear, etc. where things could go wrong! @Jj- the vest is not from a burda, but from la mia boutique, which is an italian pattern magazine. i'm not sure where you can get it in the US- amazon doesn't carry it, and i don't think around the world does either. :(

Where do you get La Mia Boutique from? I love that magazine, I used to find it in Romania, but not anymore...

hi mirela-- in germany you can buy la mia boutique in the newsstands at most main train stations... i have no idea how to get it in the US and am starting to worry how i can get my fix once i move back to the states :( you might just be able to alter the Franzi pattern to have a deep U-neckline as well. the pants are just basic slim pants with a slight flare from the knee down.
