Description

This dress was inspired by one that I saw on Cameron Diaz at the Go Fug Yourself blog. It is a simple and flattering princess line dress with a neckband, waistband and attached hem at the sleeves and skirt. The center front panel is constructed with three pleats on each side. The sleeves still need to be attached.

Materials

Muslin. I plan to make a finished version, I just haven't given thought to what kind of fabric to use yet.

Credits

Pattern was designed for a pattern making class that I am currently taking. I will update when I make the actual garment.

Looks great already! Are the pleats at the bodice left open? Please please post the pattern (as a how-to explaining how we can draft it for our own body size, rather than posting the pattern merely in your size). Can't wait to see it ready!

On Sewing Slow Mo.

Hi Everyone. Thanks for the feedback. I am going to have to read the How-To on posting a pattern because unfortunately I do not have drafting software and mine is done with the old slash and spread/tracing method on paper.

Lilo, I did leave the pleats open, but I do plan on tacking them down on the finished garment. I am fairly new to this whole pattern making thing and have no clue on how to grade patterns. And as you may have guessed, the pattern is tailored to my exact body measurements so it may be a challenge to post the pattern for others to make.

If anyone has any tips. Please let me know! I can tell you that I used "Patternmaking For Fashion Design" by Helen Joseph-Armstrong. This book is a wonderful and invaluable resource.

That is gorgeous- can't believe it was on GFY- musta been a 'Well played?" And I like it as a sleeveless shift how it is now- you could do two versions! A book I use for pattern drafting is Winifred Aldrich's Metric Pattern Cutting- good for us non-US people.

having trouble making a costume.

I am inspired :) I'm so into pleats at the moment, this dress looks really cute. Can anyone link to the Cameron Diaz pic? I've tried finding it :( I'd love to see what the sleeves are like.

I'm still debating on the material I want to use for it. I don't think I'd ever wear it in a silk, so I have to find some other options.
