The Terno Gown

Size_chart

Description

Sharing one of my final tests in school :), this is called a "terno" - a long dress/gown with constructed butterfly sleeves. The terno is a modern take on our national costume called "baro't saya" (which means blouse and long skirt). I constructed cabbage roses on the sleeves and on the end of the draped tafetta on the bodice. The gown is beaded on the bodice, crystals were placed on the center of the flowers. the panel/train at the back is part of the skirt (pleated).

Materials

old rose silk chantung and golden brown taffetta, beads and crystals

OMG what a gorgeous dress, is so elegant, Congrats, what a delicate job you've made. I love the draped accents on it, the colors and the fabrics are just great, the sleeves constructions are very clever, I love your dress!! Did you insert something beneath the sleeves for making them that shape??

Once again, you left me speachless... I can't say which one I do admire more - the dress itslef, or the fact that you made it (I guess - without pattern?). The fabrics' colors are beautifuly matched, the dress fits you perfectly. The beading, pleats and roses details are so well designed, I especially like the assymetrical pleated detail on the front. And the sleeves... I can't even imagine how you made them. BRAVO!

Thanks for all the lovely comments! Milkyway: Yup the sleeves have a mesh inside to retain it's shape. The sleeves were all handmade, from the folding, flower draping, up to attaching to the garment (which left my hands all sore and wounded - :)) Anajan: this is part of my final exams, so I had to do the designing, pattern, sewing and beading - took me a month and a half! Liendy: would you think it's too "Imeldaisque"? :))

    Hi Myk,

Super ganda your creation of our national costume. Not only this gown, but also your other creations as always.

Where are you studying in Philippines?

Absolutely stunning! It looks very modern. I think you could have a future in costume design. Your ability to go from inspiration to concept to final product is very impressive.
