Description

My serger is fabulous, I'm in love! (sshhh, don't tell my husband I said that...). Look at this thing - I can't believe I could make it in merely a couple of hours. When I got it ready I thought oups, looks good for an evening but how about wearability?... I wear it every day to work (R&D, industry) ever since because it's SOO comfortable. The pattern is from Burda WoF july 2007 #127. You can also see the three fabric layers I used and - last but not least - my very own little label (my initials) half-hidden.

Materials

Ivory lace, cotton jersey and stretch lining.

sizing a simple pant suit pattern

Lilo, Why did you use the layer of netting? Was the skirt too see-through even with the middle layer? I am about to do a layered skirt, so I'm wondering. Thanks! --Becky

I love it! Very femanine and sexy. I bought a serger but couldn't figure how to thread it. Maybe a forum on that.

Wyn, I know that threading a serger can be a nightmare; I hope the shop you bought yours from will help you with that. My serger has an air pump system for the threading: I insert 1 cm of the threads (third and fourth) into a hole, press a button and SWOOSH, ready! Of course I paid somewhat extra for that luxury.

Becky, cotton jersey (the second layer) provides the skirt nice body but can curl up on the legs while wearing pantys. In NL we have autumn and I wanted a skirt that would also keep me warm. So the netting layer is antistatic and keeps the skirt in place. By the way, funny logo!

I go crazy when I break the serger threads. I would be nice to have the air pump system (never heard about it).

Lilo, have you ever used Onion and Knipmode patterns? I'm just plain curious.

JJ, I do not know Onion and I subscribe to Knipmode but I didn't try out any of the patterns yet; I also struggle to figure out inches and yards of Vougue and McCall patterns (i.e. what size should I go for) but just as with Knipmode, I haven't tried it out them yet either. I want to try out something from here, maybe Zoe for my daughter or Janine for myself soon. I tried out the swedish Knipmode for some years ago (whilst I was living in Sweden), the patterns were ok but I find Burdas having a better fit.
