Finally I made the vintage dress from the V&A, discussed on the forum here. It's amazing! I was waiting for a unique fabric, but then I decided to make it in grey cotton, because its cheap, not too much of a prolem if I messed it up, and so I could accessorise it with any colour I wanted. The skirt is HUUUGE! Its so wide, which makes it perfect for twirling, and the pockets are great too. I didn't put the bow on the back because I didn't really fancy it, but the band is a bit out of palce on the back as you can see, so I'm thinking I might go back and put it on. So I can wear my big yellow sunglasses and yellow belt all summer long! Now I want to see your version...

Very amazing dress!!!
awesome!!! this dress has been on my to do list for a long time, but with university i have no time to sew!!! good to see that someone made it :). i have a couple of questions that i hope you can answer: 1) does it take tons of fabric?, i'm thinking about making a diferent skirt, but i love the pockets on this one. 2) how was the sizing?? i mean did you use your real size to make it or you made a bigger one?? because the pattern comes in just a couple of sizes, and unfortunately all of them too big for me :( (maybe printing on scale, like a 95% or 98% scale). i hope you can answer me (now i'm off to look your other creations :D ). saludos!
I think that we should all twirl more !!! I love this What is V&A? I like it very much in grey AND with that much fabric, a mistake in size or should you not like it would be very expensive. What a fun dress.
Yay! I too have procrastinated making this dress - but yours is so great, simple and elegant... how inspiring!
This is truly a fantastic dress & it suits you very well! How deep do those pockets go anyway?
Aaaaah! I just realized which pattern it is! Wow I never really liked that pattern but now... :D Maybe I'll make it! I love your version!
Awesome dress, it looks great on you and I love the yellow belt
It is so great to see this! Thanks for sharing- you did a great job! The twirly skirt is fab.... remember when you were a little girl, twirling was so much fun...!
Wow - so many questions! Thanks for the comments, everyone :)
Camilaustral - 1) it took 4 metres of fabric for me or I think 5 if the roll is narrower. the details are on the instructions. 2) I made size 14, I guess you could grade it, but I have absolutely no knowledge about that, sorry!
rbsmom - the Victoria and Albert Museum is in London, t has a lot of fashion exhibitions, I saw this exhibition and a Vivienne Westwood one here, and they were both amazing! www.vam.ac.uk
ainglis85 - The pockets are huge - they are around 20cm deep, they practically echo!
I am really looking forward to seeing some of your versions :)
I've just been thinking of finally making this and now I see one. :-) I, too, love the pockets. I need pockets, I'm like without hands without pockets! I'm glad to see it made by a home sewer - to see what it actually looks like when worn. Do you think I could make the skirt narrower to reduce the amount of fabric used? I'm also thinking of ommitting the bow completely... But the pockets have to stay. :-)
too cool for school! i love it! love the pockets and love the gray with the yellow accessories. i want one too!
Beautiful dress! Love the grey with the colourful accessories. It looks so cool on you.
beautiful
Very elegant! I like your yellow accessories (the best colour on grey)
i adore the straps/sleeves! the square neckline is so cute. this looks way better than the dress on the v&a website!
