This is a replica of a very expensive bag I saw in a store in Santa Monica. Mine is made with two layers of contrasting fabric cut to approx 110cms x 90cms, between these two layers is iron-on interfacing and a large piece of wadding in the centre to give the bag substance. I sewed all these layers together and then tied the corners very tightly through large rings. There is a small pocket inside for holding a mobile phone. The strap is also padded for comfort. It closes with a magnetic clip. I've made at least 50 of these bags and they are all different fabric combinations.

Thank you everyone for your encouraging comments. Yes they are addictive, I enjoy choosing the fabrics and the whole process of making them. A local fashion store is selling them for me, but not fast enough to warrant making more at the moment. A similar bag was priced at $247US in a store in Santa Monica. My daughters and I fell in love with them but I thought the price was outrageous so I set about experimenting and came up with this bag which the local store is selling for $80AU and for which I get $50. Carla, they are very simple to make. The first one took me about 4 hours to complete, but once I got going I broke that down to just over an hour. "Cut out two layers of contrasting fabric approx 110cms x 90cms, then iron a layer of iron-on interfacing to one piece of fabric, then I sew a piece of wadding approx 35cm square to the centre of the inner fabric to give the bag substance. Then I sew a small pocket to the inner fabric about 5cm from the top edge, just large enough to hold a phone. Then sew both outer and inner fabrics together wrong sides facing, leaving an opening to turn to the right side, the opening needs to be just large enough to pull the padded centre through. Once it's turned I then slip stitch the opening. I sew two small squares of fabric and lining together to attach the magnetic clasps to and then sew them to the centre of each longest side. Then hold the corners of the longest sides and thread through the rings from front to back and then bring them to the front of the rings again and tie very tightly. The strap is about 80cms long, made up of both layers of fabric and a piece of wadding the full length so it is padded for comfort." I think if I was reading this description I'd be confused too, but I can't think of a simpler way to describe it all. I hope it helps.

I buy the majority of fabrics from Spotlight www.spotlight.com.au. Darwin is a small city and we don't have many choices of where to shop locally.
