Blue poodle skirt

Description

This was a UFO (unfinished object) for almost a year. It started out as a test of the circle pattern I drafted to make the first circle-skirted dress for my niece last year. Then, because it actually fit her first go, I decided to add the applique and finish it off for her. I got discouraged with it because the fabric started to pucker up around the applique -- now I know why it is important to use a stabilizer! I've appliqued before (without using stabilizer), but on stiffer materials and had no trouble. Then I decided to finish it anyway so she could use it for a play-around-the-house skirt. And then I had trouble with the hem until I did a bit off research on hemming circle skirts. I also wasn't happy with how I handsewed the black trim (dog's leash) on. It kinda puckers up as well. Anyhow I've finally finished it -- thankfully it still fits my niece (since the waist stretched a little with being cut as a circle -- and hanging on a hanger for about 11 months! Lauren is happy with it. I think she may even wear it to her rock and roll dance classes.

Materials

not sure what the fabric is it's very thin and has a sheen -- bought at a discount fabric shop, felt, fleecy fabric, sequin trim, ribbon, tiny glass bead, zipper, fusible web
