Spring cleaning yielded a harvest of tired old pants that needed new life. Used and modified etsylabs instructions for turning pants in to skirts. I did a couple of these so decided to write up the modified tutorial. You will find the link on the how-to section. I found that this modified way works best with pants that have relaxed, not tight, in seams. If pants are too tight, you will have to add more material towards that center front and back lines. I tried a couple of these and some did not turn out so well. The back skirt looks like it cups the butt, not flattering. Maybe this would be a good application for a skirt block if I knew how to make one. What do you think, burdastyle superheros with laser eyes for garment construction. If I line up the side seams to the side skirt block then i would know exactly how much I need to add to that center. yes? hmmm... gets me thinking.

I just did the same thing yesterday to a pair of no longer fashionable goucho-capri pants.
I agree with you, you really need a more relaxed set of pants, or they never sit correctly as a skirt.
Looks nice =)
