I'm getting married in June and I hated the idea of buying a dress that I could probably make myself so I took a deep breath, bought a couture wedding dress book and went for it! I did buy the petticoat but had to put the bias binding on the base as this was originally just overlocked. I had quite a lot of trouble with creating sleeves as I had made the neckline too wide on the shoulder and this created dragging, in the end I decided to make a bolero in a crushed organza which actually makes the dress much cooler so I am quite happy the arms didn't work out! There is boning on the waist section with a waist stay and a hand stiched silk lining, thankfully it turned out quite well and fits like a glove :o)

Waw! How great to make your own wedding dress! And it looks fabulous on you! I love the color and the cut. The petticoat showing underneath gives it a retro look. Loving it, loving it, loving it...
Congrats on the wedding!
Congrats on the wedding and the wedding dress too. It looks awesome!
This dress is adorable! First, because of the color: lovely and not-white! I swear that that day I'll get married I won't wear a white dress! Second: the pattern is great, it looks so cool and fancy for a wedding dress! I hope you have a lot of fun on your wedding with that cool dress :)
I'm impressed. Its a huge step making your own wedding dress. Its beautiful. I love the colour. Did you make your own dress form too?
I'm amazed. A fabulous wedding dress. It's absolutely great and you'll have a great day in it. Congrats!
What a gorgeous dress! It's perfect for you! The colours of the dress and bolero are really beautiful together. It's so special - the dress will likely be a big talking point on the day. Great that you didn't outsource it.
Congratulations! This is a fantastic dress, and hopefully your memories of the day will be equally as beautiful. :)
Thanks everyone for your lovely comments, I think there are always things you might change after you have finished something like this but I am happy enough to get married in it! Miss G: I did make the dress form, I got my partner to use gaffa tape over a t-shirt then sliced up the back, retaped, stuffed with cheap pillow lining and finally taped over with paper gum tape to make a shell for pinning. It's been so helpful!
Beautiful, couture indeed! Congratulations!
I've also made my own dress, mom helped out, I know how much love goes into it...somehow I wish I could wear the dress again :) it's not really white, more grayish...well not for a wedding...yours will be wearable!
how nice! I love the bust design, very flattering! Thanks for showing the process of your creation!
This is gorgeous! I love the fullness of the skirt. And the colour.
I love your wedding-dress! The colour is great and I think the idea with the bolero ist perfect. I'm going to try this dressform-thing as well, it's a really good alternative to those expensive ones. How does it stand? Or is it hanging? I wish you a great wedding!!!
That dress is fantastic shape on you. You are going to look amazing. Good Luck for June!
I think that we shared a pattern choice for our wedding dresses. Was one of your choices a vogue pattern? I love the color that you chose and the addition of the bow. If it is the pattern that I am thinking of for the bodice, I like the change that you made to the skirt.
the dress is amazing - congratulations!
