Alabama Chanin Skirt

Size_chart

Description

Meet my summer skirt! Before I moved on to another burda pattern, I thought I'd share another skirt I made based on the pattern from the Alabama Stitch Book. I used the same stencil for the corset top. To use the reverse applique technique I cut out two sets of the same four panel A-line skirt. On this project I also used leftover beads I had from previous jewelry projects to outline the silhoutte of the crane and the clouds. I purposely left some unfinished so that when I have time I will slowly add more beads to the skirt. I think of it as my own version of tatoos, I will add as I see fit and as inspired.

Materials

knit from yardage and from recylced tshirts, seed beads, buttonhole thread, fabric paint, stencil

    Starting to make Spring clothes.

What a throughly beautiful skirt. I like the colours, textures, the birds. Well done. I'm keen to check out that book.

way too busy for loads of sewing

I think it looks great. I had never heard of this technique either, but I really like the textures and shapes of your skirt. You can really tell that hours of loving work were put into making it. Very special.

That is a stunning skirt, you've done an excellent job - well done! I would love one of those. You've inspired me to resurrect my old embroidery books and skills.

    Should finish the white shirt...

I'm in love with this skirt! I went to the link you posted (thanks for that, by the way!) and was wondering...for this one, it looks like you didn't cut out the top fabric, just left it so it bubbled with the one under it. Is that right?

Hey Reneebeth. Yes, for the clouds, I decided not to cut the top fabric because the silver fabric paint that I used looked right as they were. But for the crane and a very small section of the clouds which is not seen in the pictures here, I did reverse applique them. I posted more pictures here for reference.
