Description

I wasn't too sure whether to post this or not. I guess I can get away with it posting it here under costumes. After all, it's about the creations not about the weird people wearing them, isn't it? ;)

The pattern is a Bridal Gown from a German Burda magazine (2004).

Materials

Manmade fibres. The skirt part used to be a plumeau case. Corset made from embroidered green material doubled with vlieseline and cotton lining, rigeline for boning (the latter I've treated rather sloppily which caused some of the plastic to stab into my arm pits, ouch)

Credits

Burda Modemagazin

Elke, for being a great photographer

wishing everyone a happy new year!

I think it is really nice. The top looks complicated, so respect for that! Grüße von noch einer deutschen Näherin ;)

    Thanks!

Hallo Halle, die Ostsee grüßt. Actually, the top wasn't too difficult. Since I "created" my figure with padding the corset didn't need to form, and I only had to really get my waist right. However, cutting 14 small panels of flimsy material, plus vlieseline, plus lining and sewing all those little pieces together is a rather tedious and time-consuming work. Nevertheless, I am quite pleased with the outcome. Though, if I ever where to sew something like that again I'd add shoulder straps (always nice to have something to hold it up). I almost fell off the stage when stepping onto the hem. I only ended up topless with my boobs rolling all over the place (oh, the shame!) Permission to laugh granted.

Thanks for your compassion tarantula! I promise, I'll keep going and posting. I lost count off the items on my to do list, all of them, surprise, "gender-appropriate" this time ;) But aargh, my sewing machine seems to be beyond repair :'( Well, I guess I'll have to pay my mother, and her sewing machine, a long visit.

The first photograph is beautiful and the dress is too. What was the event you wore it to?

Thanks, all of you! I'm pleasantly surprised by all these positive reactions. This really is a nice place to be!!

There's nothing to envy (especially not for you JJ), you haven't seen the rather sloppy finish on the inside. (I blame my mother, she constantly told me: "You'll only wear this once and no one will look under the skirt, or will they?" -"Oh, no! Of course not!")

The occasion was the annual Internationales Kieler Tuntenrennen (International Drag Race of Kiel) which I used to present. It discontinued in 2006.

LemonEmlyn: Thanks for reminding me. The photographer really needs to have a place in the credits.

(hahaha) this is gorgeous!! please-please keep on posting, we (at least i do) want fresh ideas and diversity. you are also very skilled (and patient). and yes, you might be better off with straps next time, the real thing(s) on us women give us an advantage in holding up a strapless bodice.

    It's a very beautiful dress!

I currently have fabric for two corsets or midriffs and already bought the boning stuff. I have made corsets before and know exactly what you mean with that plastic stinging out...I wonder if anybody can show us how to prevent it from happening...

Thanks, thanks, thanks. The rigeline issue could be solved with covering the ends with adhesive tape. For the real stuff (can't remember the English word right now - spring steel?) there are special caps to cover the ends.
