A simple but elegant version of Sidonie that can be dressed up or down, depending on your mood. The fabric, polyester moleskin, has a suede-like texture on its' "right" side and a satin finish on the "wrong" side. The matte and satin sides were combined to create a discreet tone-on-tone contrast. This look could also be achieved by using crepe-back satin.
The waistband was eliminated in favor of an inner band of grosgrain ribbon. I chose this method to create a clean, uncluttered look that would not distract from the "chain link" detachable belt.
The chain link belt is made from small "buckles" that are threaded onto a length of organza ribbon. Small slits are incorporated into the side seams of skirt to attach the belt, and the belt is held in place by buttons on the inner band. Now you can remove the belt when you launder the skirt. You can also design additional belts to give your skirt interesting new looks!
Decorative topstiching adorns every contrasting panel, but also surrounds the back zipper and back darts. I love topstiching- not only because it looks professional, but because it makes the seams lay down nice and flat.
This variation of Sidonie sews up quickly and is suitable for beginners. I took photographs during each step and intend to post a tutorial very soon.
The metallic top that is pictured with Sidonie á la Chanel comes from the Burda World of Fashion magazine. It sews up quickly too- took me about an hour to construct.
I challenged myself to make this garment from items in my stash. With this goal in mind, the design of Sidonie á la Chanel evolved from available materials. As most sewing hobbyists know, you can save a lot of money making your own clothes. This skirt is no exception- the total cost of all materials is less than $8!

This is super work. And the price cannot be beat. You have a good fashion sense. No "cute" tricks, instead, you used fine trim additions.

Two things: a) I love the skirt. It's very classy, but still fully wearable in a typical "every occation" without it being over the top.
