Description

I wanted to make this jacket with a lining although I was unsure about the box pleat on the top of the wrist. After I tried the jacket on after sewing the main seams (back and sides) I really liked the sleeves as they were- the drape on the fabric was fab! All I did was lengthen them with an extra piece of fabric.

The jacket felt very unstructured at that point, which I found to be a good thing, it did look good. But as I had already bought the lining I thought I’d better use it. Although with 1.5m I could have easily made it into something else.

The fringing was the jacket material sewn between the in and outer pieces of the jacket and really easy to make as I found out that the material frayed so easily. I was positive that it was fraying as I looked at it!! Yes – it was really that bad! But I do have plans to make another with no lining and fringing out of the same type of material but a different colour way

Materials

The material is a loosely woven cotton mix which cost £13 per metre. The lining is a satin man-made fibre mix (can anyone guess that I can’t remember what it was? hehe) costing £7 per metre and with those costs thank goodness I like the finished item. The contrast between the two is obvious but intentional.

I’m thinking of getting more of the cotton mix and making a trouser suit – I’m that impressed with it!
