beautiful! I love it! How did you make the "smock"? Is it difficult to do?

That's lovely! I'm also interested in how you did the smock. Also, there's a nice clean edge to the top of the dress... was that from the fabric you chose, or did you use your sewing machine to achieve that result?

Fabulous dress! I like the fabric choice. Not sure if this is how you did the smocking, but for those of you who wondered, an easy way to get the smock-y look is to hand-wind your bobbin with elastic thread and use regular thread for the top. It's about the coolest (and easiest) trick I know how to do with a sewing machine, and you don't need fancy-schmancy stitch settings or anything. Google "smocking with elastic thread" or similar for more detailed instructions.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments. Yes, the smocking is easy to do, and I did exactly what danamonofun said. I also had no idea how to do this until I asked at the fabric shop and couldn't believe how easy it is. I also googled it and found a good website with instructions and pics: http://www.kukyideas.com/journal/2007/04/shirred-dress-tutorial.html Just remember, the more rows you do the tighter it gets, so don't be tempted to pull the thread tighter when you have only made a few rows of stitching. The edge were finished with a rolled hem on the overlocker. Happy sewing!
