Description

My father once, out of boredom probably, made up a whole list of new species of bears. I decided to make them for him. This is Purple bear, alias Ursus purpureus. He is a result of my desire to create my own pattern for a teddy - I tried one from a book, it didn't work as well as it could, and I thought "I could make one myself." So I did.

Materials

Stretch velvet or something like that - the stretchy fabric works great with my pattern. Originally children's trousers.

The cutest little thing. How did you make it? I would love to make one for my godson.. What new species is this one according to your father?

Thank you! Purple bear = Ursus purpureus. :-) I made it using my own pattern. I don't feel like sharing it, I must say, because it is the very first toy pattern I created, but it was prety easy to create it. A body pattern - back and front (with darts), limbs patterns, head pattern - that is the most complicated part, being sewn from five pieces + nose and ears. I've sewn it by hand. The stretchy fabric helps a lot, too, because it gets nice shape. And I promise, when I make more patterns (which I hope I will), I will share some. :-)

    Very cute!

P.S. URSUS is also the name of a Romanian beer :) ...talk about coincidences, also Marmota is a Romanian word for a little cute animal

So it's in Romanian, too? Woohoo! I love collecting the languages where marmota is. :-) You know, my nickname is Svišť, i.e. Marmot, but I like this Latin form Marmota more... And I'm glad you like him!
