Black hat and scarf. I made the scarf first and I had leftover yarn, so I decided to make the hat. It was my first hat and I needed a pattern. Vickie Howell had a pattern for a very cool men’s Brimster: http://vickiehowell.com/2006/05/brimster-free-pattern-of-month_01.html. By trial and error I managed to modify it and came up with a more feminine version. It is a combination of knitting and crochet.

I love your feminine version. Which part of the pattern that you have changed and it made more feminine? Did you crochet the band and brim? I want to knit one. Thanks
Looks great. I'd love to knit that for myself, could you perhaps explain what changes you made to the pattern?
Changes I've made to Vicke's pattern: MAKE THE BACK: 98 sts. was way too many, I casted 70 sts. Instead of 2x2 rib I did 1x1, but this change was just my personal like, you can do 2x2 if you prefer it. The rest of the BACK: no change. MAKE THE FRONT: no change MAKE THE BODY: Instead of 2x2 I did 1x1, but if you did the BACK part in 2x2, keep the BODY in 2x2 rib. No other changes. Begin Shaping (No change if you are doing 2x2 rib) Next round: P2tog, for the next 2 sts:purl the purl, knit the knit repeat to the end. Next round: no change to the end. MAKE THE BRIM : This part is all crochet, roughly speaking it goes like this: (The FRONT and BACK must be seemed before this part) Starting 1/3" before the FRONT starts, I crochet about 45 sc onto the hat, finnishing 1/3" from the end of the FRONT. Work even in sc for the next 10 rows, make the edges narrow by skipping the last sc in each row. To make the smooth finish I did 2 more rows in sc from the edge (whre the brim meets the FRONT) to the edge of the brim. BAND: I crochet this part, but it can be knitted as well. Make it as long/wide as you like. After I finished mine I thought that knitting a band with a cable pattern would look nice. End buttons would be geat, too. I hope that my instructions make sense. Good luck and I hope to see your creations soon.
Oh, they are so pretty on you!
very pretty picture! you look beautiful!
Hi again, Thank you so much for taking time writing the changed pattern.
