May I introduce you to the first garmet I made myself and absolutely HATE ;) I thought I give the fishermen's pants a try, because I had some leftover fabric. Well, the pants are much too short (they hang low, but are still high waters) and too wide for me I think. I dunno, are they supposed to look good? ;) They are comfy, but I guess nothing for me. If anyone's interested I'd sell them.

You are not doing yourself (nor the garment)any favour striking this summo-like pose :) I can tell in effect that you don't really care about it. Well, start judo, or any martial arts, even go fishing in Thailand. I am sure you will grow fond of it somehow...
i saw the pattern too and it seemed really cool but i had a feeling it was going to be very hard to pull off. maybe you should make some shorts or capris out of them? i know you'll find a way - you always do! i nothing works they can always be pyjama pants, right?
I think the fabric you chose might be too stiff for this pattern? But the pants are so baggy, you might even make a skirt and vest out of them.
Aww, Helene ... you made me laugh. Yeah, I also think that the fabric is maybe a little bit stiff. But I'll leave it at that, maybe there is a costume party where I can wear them :D
Maybe its just me, but I actually dont mind them (I have printed this pattern off to make myself at some point) I would wear them around the house, they have a relaxed look to them, good for lounging around in I reckon!
Heheheheh, LoL!
You know what? I reckon you haven't put them on properly. I've seen a friend pull the excess fabric across to her left front, then folded it across to the other side, tied the tie, then she bent the top down. Give it a go!
Hehe you're brave for trying that pattern girl! Like smvphotography said it does look really hard to pull off and I have no idea what they are suppose to look like???? Will you still alter them further?
Hahaha! I totally understand you! I gave them a try last week, and really, I guess i'll just wear them around the house (when nobody's around)... My fabric might be too stiff too, but I did put them on properly.
I wore this style of pants while i was pregnant. Perfect for the growing belly and very comfortable. I think a softer draping fabric is best for this style of pant.
These look like great pants for pyjama's or lounging around the house or for when pregnant, They are supposed to be baggy a lighter fabric would have worked better, agreed no favours done with the sumo pose. Did you read the coments and pics on the original posting before making them?
I removed this pattern from my favorites a while back ... figuring I would not be successful with them. LIke others have said, IF I was pregnant I may attempt them. Thanks for sharing. BTW, I thought the sumo pose was appropriate for the pants!
in Turkey it is very common to wear those pants and generally it looks stylish to me...if you wear a nice tank top on it and use some nice accesorries, it looks really cool...maybe you should try to fit it tihghter little bit than it will look better and maybe you can try some colour variatons on one like inside and outside if you have different coluors it maybe more impressive...i will try one of those when i have the nice fabric...but you made it great...i like your style too...
Hey, if they're comfortable, and you can wear 'em around the house, who really cares? I kind of like them. But if you can't stand the site of them, put them up on our flickr swap page! (yes, that's me shamelessly advertising :) ) Anyway, I think that they look fine. I may make myself some......
Yesh, it does appear that you have them tied improperly. You definitely can look up how to tie them correctly on the internet. I know there are plenty of sites out there that will tell you. Once you've got it figured out, they still might look funny. I think you might fall in love with them eventually... I love mine so much! So comfy! :+)
