It seems the favourite choice for our next sewalong are the Janina pants.
I for one am very happy about this choice as i have fabric ready for making these. My regular clothes no longer fit so i desperately need to make some maternity trousers. The weather here in Melbourne is warming up slightly but most days are still trouser weather.
So lets get going with our own versions of the Janina trousers. This week post an image of your chosen fabric and let everyone know which style you plan to make (long or knee length) and any alterations you may be thinking of making.
I'm going to use this linen for Janina. I'll prob. use the striped linen for the legs of the pants (full length) and the plaid for the waistband/pockets, with black piping lining the front pockets. Then I'll make a matching Margarete from the plaid.
@kallers I like your fabric, a good choice!
I don’t have any suitable fabric in my stash but I am going to go shopping next week. I downloaded and printed the pattern yesterday and I was very frustrated because printing, cutting and gluing the pages together took so much time!!! :( I am also thinking of sewing a muslin this weekend because I have no idea which size I need and what I'll have to change to make the pattern fit.
I am going to go very simple on this one. I need a pair of casual everyday pants that will go with lots of things. So I found this “stone” picket cotton fabric, a button with some interesting detail, a zip and thread.
I'm pleased that Janina comes in sizes up to 50 - thanks BurdaStyle! - so hopefully I'll be able to participate. Not sure about the fabric yet; I'll have to rummage through the stash.
Here’s the fabric I will use, an elastic cotton in champagne (light yellow):
I'll do full-length pants, maybe leave a small slit in the hem (I have similar draw-strring pants that have these, but they're jersey).
I just hope it will fall nicely, since I have wide hips. And I'm short :p
Hi, I'd like to participate in this sewalong too. I don’t have pictures yet, but I put the pattern together yesterday. I made a couple slight alterations: 1) shortened! I am short. I am aiming for a “capri” length. For me the perfect cutting line turned out to be at the lower shorten/lengthen mark on the printed pattern. 2) I am well endowed on my posterior side. I've made several Burda patterns before, and for the size that fits my hips, the back waist is usually too big. So I slanted the back crotch seam in about ½", which will trim about 1" from the back waist. 3) I altered the back waistband to match.
I feel pretty confident about these alterations, but I'm making the first pair in an inexpensive fabric just in case. It is a heavy brown/gold cotton from my stash. It’s similar in weight to a heavy twill—not quite as heavy as denim—but it’s not actually a twill weave. One side is lightly napped and I haven’t decided which side I'll use as the outside. In any case, they will be pants for fall, which is fast approaching where I live. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else creates.
Here's my cotton twill prewashed still showing the lint from the towels that went into the washer with it. I think we're all thinking similar - neutral tannish color.
My brain just got bigger. Thanks for the link on "how to" Here's my fabric. I'm lucky that I have a plotter at my job. I printed the pattern last Friday.
I went to cut out the fabric and realized that the smallest size was a 36. According to the size chart, I'm a 34. I started to size down (like elainemay’s how to), but decided I didn’t want to spend all that time doing it when I could use another pattern. Hope you all aren’t too mad for jumping out.
@Wyn Like you I only just realized that this pattern starts at size 36 :D
I'll try 36 but if my muslin doesn't fit, I'll be out too. I hate downsizing, it takes so much time.
