Even though we have 8 inches of snow on the ground, I know that spring is just around the corner. For me, that means starting on a new wardrobe. With all the new patterns that have been released, tutorials on the web, and a plethora of magazines (not to mention books) that have begun stacking up, it’s hard to chose. So how do you determine what to sew first? A pattern that catches your eye? The item that you need the most? The project that you have all the supplies on hand?

I’ve been making tunic tops of various fabrics & styles (bias plaid bateau neck, tie-dye spaghetti strap, Indian rayon patchwork babydoll) to wear over jeans, leggings, or capri pants for summer. Have made some flowy gypsy skirts in different fabrics, attached to a low-rise body-skimming skirt yoke. I’d like to make some bolero tie-front tops to layer over tunic tops & t-shirts, when you’re in a chilly air-conditioned place. Also, been wanting to make a white linen yoga pant, slim legged, low-rise, with a sublte flare at the hem.

I’ve started making dresses for the summer. Can’t wait to start wearing them.. I’m always making a summer collection for my two year old daughter. I’ve tried to put my proects on, but keep getting error messages. Any suggestions?

I will probably start with what I have on hand and take it from there. I have a stash….a fabric stash, a pattern stash, an idea stash…you name it! I stash it away for a spring rainy day. I am working on a Twinkle Sews project right now and then on to one of my Burda patterns in my acct.

For me its the other way around! I am thinking about warm clothes as it is summer in New Zealand, but not too warm as I am still trying to fit in a dress or two for summer

I am obsessed with spring, where I live the winters are harsh and it can’t come quickly enough for me. I always associate spring with soft romantic looks, so I usually choose dress and skirt patterns that catch my eye. Light feminine, with vintage lace, softer colors or bold pink rose floral prints are definitely the first choice for fabric and styles this spring. My new ‘favorite’ unfinished look for spring is a simple timeless dress with a more ‘masculine’ leather jacket. I managed to find an awesome vintage men’s bomber jacket for 5 dollars at a local thrift store and I’m taking it in a bit so it doesn’t overwhelm the look. It’s very romantic old school movie star.

I hope to make my first pants soon, i already got the fabric and it is for winter. Also i’ve bought fabric for a jacket. i could wear that when it is to warm for my winter coat and to cold still for no one. I would also love to make a dress, but i can wait with that til it is spring.

I want to make my first jacket and I am looking forward to it very much. But, I´m afraid I can´t do it, I´ve made only few dresses and easier things so far. I have a beautiful wooly fabric and I really want it to be nice, but… :)

It has been a while since I have sewn something for myself, so I have taken a good look at what is in my closet and made some of my decisions from what I need. Also, the BSC here has decided to do a Burdastyle fashion show and we are all making complete outfits using Burdastyle patterns. I am so excited to make some garments for me this year!

Dresses and lightweight jackets….. whatever I can get to work on fastest is likely to happen first.

Choose whatever one pulls at your heartstrings the most.
