Do you think you could sum up your fashion personality in 1 word? I see fashion magazines do it all the time, and then offer outfits to suit your look. But being the talented designers & sewers we are, doesn’t our fashion personality vary from day-to-day or project-to-project? I know that I have a very specific silhouette I stick to at least 5 days out of the week: one of my Dahl dresses or high-waisted skirts, some sort of cool stockings or black opaques, a vintage or worn-in cropped cardigan and long, unkempt hair. I feel most comfortable in Dahl & vintage. All I can think of is Penelope Cruz in Volver, she wears outfits like that everyday, but what amuses me is that she is supposedly dressing like a middle aged, not dressing to impress, not-very-well-to-do housewife, but I think she looks stunning (yes, I know she’s insanely sexy- but these outfits make her even more so)! The prints & textures of her attire is what really kills me. So would my label be “Spanish Housewife”? Or perhaps more appropriately suited would be “Woman in an Almodovar Film”.
See my Almodovar Heroines Slideshow here!
Regardless, I would like to know if you label your style. Do you have a strong fashion personality? If you would sum it up in 1 word or phrase, what would it be?

Haha! I love that! It reminds me of dressing up in high school when I lived on cape cod- a not very glamorous place but certainly fun to run down the beach in long dresses & fancy coats in the winter!

I like to call my style “poverty chic” because my husband went back to school and the only new clothes I get are the clothes I make myself.

classic/eccentric. I have a penchant for classic dresses and silhouettes, but I like to weird it up.

magpie – bright colours, rich fabrics and/or embellishments, Even without any of these quirky details are a must. I try to stick to a theme for each outfit to prevent things from becoming a mess.

I love Almodovar, but a bit surprised by the images in your slide show. The look works for Penelope, but it veers towards the tight, manic & garish. I guess I think of your color palette as a bit more subdued or quiet.
I just watched Love Story this weekend…. I love the high waist skirts, black tights, oxfords, scarves, & hats worn by Ali McGraw. Long hair, no makeup, showing her natural beauty. The look could be called ivy league pauper.

I guess I would say I am more inspired by Almodovar’s looks than I actually comply to them. I definitely tone it down and stick to a fairly monotone color palette as you’ve noted— and now I realize it is the spirit of his films that really get me excited, and maybe I wear that on the inside.

LOVE Ali McGraw in Love Story. Love that look especially because it’s so snowy here too!

I’m pretty firmly in the “high-class Goth” category – everything I own is black, with occasional hints of rich reds or bright violets, but I tend to go for a more subtle, more feminine style than the clunky boots and buckled leather of my Gothic cohorts. I like old fashioned things with a dramtic, eye-catching twist.
Of course, I’ve also been described as “an escapee from a Victorian insane asylum.” And I’m okay with that too.

I’d have to go with messy too, although I’m determined to change that and actually plan my wardrobe in the future.
Great slide show, by the way. I adore Almodovar’s films and Cruz. She’s gorgeous and has impeccable style.

I can’t do it in one word but in two. ‘Comfortable couture’ and no it’s not an oxy (sp?) moron. I like being comfortable and looking like a million bucks.
How often I pull this off however is another story.

I wish I had a style :). Many times I´m just trying to copy others… friends, people in the photos. I want to be something I would call “uncomplicated romantic”, I guess :). Also, it changes with time… Lately, I´m all into lace, dresses and bows.
