So psychic. I was wanting a simple high waisted skirt to go with lace wrap top pattern from last year. And some shorts that weren’t overly short, overly baggy but good outdoors – these are perfect! Can never get my size in adventure pants for work/hiking so these trousers are fantastic from office to field. … Now I could also do with some hints on how to choose/sew outdoor fabrics (weatherproof seaming? Where to buy fabrics) plus some neat outdoor wind-cheaters and long sleeved shirts (underarm vents, outside and internal pockets, sleeve tabs)…. Plus layering (active /thermal tops but kind-of work appropriate active wear – you know, not the sort which yells I’m super-sexy but is still flattering yet functional).

The brown fabric in the trousers is more the tone of brown I will aim for when making safari styled items. The other beiges/tans/olive tones are not for me. To make the pieces more interesting, a deep purple colour would be ideal to use!

I made several of these when the patterns came out in the magazine – 2011? My TNT shorts pattern that I’ve made so many times (minus the welt pockets usually) – highly recommended. The straight skirt is a short one. The description isn’t quite right – those aren’t buttons, but metal snaps on the darts. Totally non-functional, but a cute detail. In any case, it’s a good collection – I’ve repeated some of these patterns several times and then lend themselves to modification too.

I just bought the January 2016 magazine and there’s mention of a City Safari collection in the February 2016 magazine. Also the special Vintage issue that Burdastyle has on 60s fashion has a two-piece safari suit, should members want as many safari patterns as they can obtain.
