Many of us who sew often look to the past for inspiration and love vintage— we muse over old Hollywood glamour and the uber-feminine silhouettes of the 40s and 50s. If you’ve got a bit of silver screen siren in you, be sure to check out these new patterns!
Here are the looks:

Off the Shoulder Dress

Is it thrue that Burda magazine stops their production? I´ve heard that yesterday and was shocked… I kind of can´t believe that.

A friend told me, saying that they had some kind of bankruptcy and can´t continue the bussiness… I´m relieved you haven´t heard about it.

Definitely just a rumor, burda style magazine is still in production.

Beautiful. And I love that there are plus sizes. I am a full figure gal @ a size 14. It is always disappointing when you see a beautiful style but in a size that will not fit. Thank You Burda!

Love the dresses and the model is definitely doing justice to the styles! Beautiful choice, beautiful curves… these dresses really accentuate her figure! I adore and I’m going to be doing a lot of sewing on this holiday weekend

Hello all, the off shoulders and the sailor’s dresses remember my childhood until my teenage years, when my mom just to sew and created this kind of styles for my oldest sister. Love them!

OMG! I could not tell that was supposed to be a PLUS MODEL ! ! ? Naaaah! Either way, beautiful girl and beautiful clothes. Now there are three dresses I am burning to make …but I am already working on a couple of things for other people. I must get away from my computer before I see more! ;-)

Seriously? That’s a “plus-size” model? She looks freaking fantastic!
Jul 26, 2011, 05.50 PMby nouvellegamine
i swear, burda has the most beautiful models.
as a 38 i don’t fit into these patterns, but i always check out the styling in burda’s plus section bc it’s always phenomenal.
as for sizing up or down: i have to alter every pattern no matter what. i’ve never come across a pattern that i could just sew and have it look nice. that’s also why i usually can’t buy ready to wear clothes. if i find a plus pattern i like then i look for similar lines in another burda magazine & alter the details :)
also, can we please not have every post turn into body politics? everyone is different. we all have struggles. let’s have compassion & understanding for everyone & not use negative language. thank you :)

I feel you on the resizing and the not buying ready made… I’m not a plus size, I’m actually very slim, but I am an inbetween size… I’m a size 3 / 35/ 9 (UK sizes) and I HATE shopping because I never find anything in my size and I don’t like to buy clothing that I’m going to have to alter…

whenever i find anything ready made that fits i hang onto it for dear life! all of my pants are over 5 years old.
whenever i’m frustrated having to resize a pattern, i always tell myself that’s the nature of sewing ;) it’s worth it for a great fit!

I’m not at all plus size but these are nice dresses, especially the sailor’s dress neck w/slves. It’s too much of a bother to size down though at least for me as I’m a size 8 on top and size 4 on the bottom and have to make major adjustment to clothing anyway…
