Central Saint Martins is arguably one of the most prestigious fashion design schools in the world. Alexander McQueen, Phoebe Philo, John Galliano, and Stella McCartney have all studied within it’s hallowed walls and it continues to turn out some of the most buzzed about young talent in fashion. To help kick off London Fashion Week, the school showcased collections from it’s senior MA students, including L’Oreal Professional Prize award winners Phoebe English and Viktor Smedinge, and drummed up excitement for the next wave of great fashion talent.
See my favorite looks from Central Saint Martins’ students and let me know which up-and-coming designers you think are the next big names in fashion.

phoebe english is my favourite and though it feels like a little deja vu, they are clothes that, as a woman, i would like to try on, which is what clothes are made for i guess!… any other doesnt flatter the body or isnt conceptual enough to really get me WOAW. the fact that i prefer in general more fitting or architectural pieces might be the first reason but it is just a personnal taste and im no designer. some pieces definitely dont appeal to me because they look like they are out from an hour craft lesson, and the finishings are not showing enough neatness or rough edge to be a statement . fabrics are playing an important part in my impression about clothes, and i am not sure some choices here are made in the best interest of the pieces, or the potential buyer.

It`s interesting to see everyone’s designs and concepts. When u are in school you are not really concerned about how marketable your designs can be". It`s a stage for experimentation in which you explore different concepts and construction techniques as you find yourself as a designer. I think it`s interesting to see how diverse this kids are. But for me… PHOEBE ENGLISH all the way!

Good Grief,
These are some of the most androgynous creations I think I have ever seen. Even at that they are so formless that even the “human” form is non-existent. We are left to assume they (the designs) are for humans because of the heads sticking out above them. I for one am an art to wear artist in order to celebrate my individuality, differences and uniqueness. In my view the designers in their hope to support the “equalness” of the human, have removed everything suggesting our differences. I still believe (perhaps naively) that equal does not have to mean same. That we can be different and still remain equal.

Shaun Samson’s models look mighty angry at what they are wearing.

I don’t really feel any of the designers here. Have you noticed that most of the pieces are not form-fitting and show no body shape?

That’s what I was thinking- nothing flattering at all. Looks like some of them just rolled out of bed with their duvet cover still wrapped around them!

What’s with the choice of fabrics? Some ugly looks here. (especially the menswear)
