Why do you mention this if the store itself needs to pay to be on the map?

We are mentioning this so we can find out good resources for seamstresses and seamsters around the world.
We figure who would know better about quality local stores than you, our avid members. Once we hear about a great store, we will be in contact with them and see if they are interested on being part of the resource map.
We want to create a map that is valuable to everyone, whether you are moving to a new neighborhood or visiting for the weekend and would like to check out, lets say, fabric stores. Imagine how cool it would be if you were visiting Paris, Tokyo, Melbourne, or even Portland OR and you could check out what’s going on there in the sewing and crafting world, how cool would that be?!?!

Well IvoryNoire, it falls under the whole change of philosophy in Burdastyle.. Of course I think this whole “change” was the plan from the beginning, as Burdastyle seems to have been a sort of campaign for Burda so they could get an online community going…
I’m quite disappointed… but of course it was too good to be true.

Hey Staticstasy,
I’m sorry that you feel that BurdaStyle was a scheme, because it was never thought of that way. I know everyone was upset about the “change” but certain things had to take effect in order to keep the site going. To run an online community of this dimension requires a lot funds for human resources and bandwidth. We want to offer as many resources as possible for free , e.g. free membership for 260,000+ people to exchange skills, ideas, patterns, etc.
We are asking for people help to find stores because we would like to compile the most comprehensive list of sewing resources out there in the “real world” and we thought that you, our members, might know some quality stores!
We believe that is a win/win situation, members find new resources and the stores get more customers.
If you have any questions, as always, please feel free to emails me!

Sorry about being harsh before but I don’t understand how whoever started Burdastyle couldn’t have seen that there would be expenses at some point in the project. Anyway.
And no that’s fine, I don’t have anything else to ask.

I think you guys are missing the point: The companies pay (what sounds to me like a very reasonable fee) to be listed on this map/directory, the we can access it to find local sewing resources in our area…sounds like a great way to me to find new places to get awesome fabric and supplies. Great idea BurdaStyle! I only arrived in a new city 5 years ago so the stress of finding new stores to shop for my sewing supplies is still fresh in my mind, I think this will benefit everyone.

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen! I live in a military town where people move in and out constantly so I know how frustrating it is to try to find a good fabric store in a new place. Sadly, there are not many in this town, but I frequent the few locations that do exist and I will definitely share this with the owners of those stores! I just wish we had more fashion fabrics available in NC! I’m tired of the funny looks I get in these country quilt shops when I ask for chiffon!
