For those who live in the United States, Thanksgiving will be celebrated this Thursday. Not only is it a time for a wonderful array of food and friends and family to gather together, but it’s also a perfect time for last minute sewing! Needing a few ideas on how you can put your sewing skills to work and dress up your table this year (or just bring a killer gift to your hostess)? Here’s a few to get you started:

Skip the naked table and decorate yours with a beautiful tablecloth. About.com has a good tutorial on how to make your own – whether it be oval, square, rectangle or round. If you prefer place mats, check out this gorgeous reversible applique set or this tutorial on dressing up inexpensive, store bought place settings.

Don’t forget the napkins! There are numerous tutorials available but this Bias Tape set from The Purl Bee and Skip to my Lou’s simple Mitered Edge napkins are two great examples of how just a few yards of material and an hour (or two) of your time can really set a fabulous table.

Before Thanksgiving Day approach, everyone is thinking about the food to be served on the table. There are several traditions being done during this event. On the other hand, you want to make sure you have the requisite Thanksgiving tools – you need a bird (duh) and stuffing, and if the in laws are showing up, antacids. If you clip some Thanksgiving coupons, you could put on a royal spread without online cash loans or credit cards. Thanksgiving brings with it football, and also the day after – when everybody goes shopping, and there is a lot of money going to be spent this year. It’s also easier to know just how much food to buy and therefore prepare if you have all your guests RSVP ahead of time. (However, it never works out that way.)
