We’re happy to introduce a one-size-fits-all pattern to the BurdaStyle Pattern Database, because not only will it fit you- it will fit in your bag as well! The Charlie Reusable Grocery Bag Pattern is BurdaStyle’s contribution to the movement to reduce the consumption of plastic bags- which is especially high in the United States! Do your part to help by making this bag for you, your friends, your family, your neighbors. . . anyone you know who could stand to say Bye Bye to the boring and bad plastic shopping bag! Best thing about it?!- It has a pouch inside so the bag can tuck into itself! Now you can carry it with you everywhere!
Download the pattern here! Learn how to make it by following the simple instructions in this How To and be sure to post pictures in the Creations section.
P.S. Check out this version of Charlie, specially embroidered by our friends Jenny Hart and Sublime Stitching!

That’s excellent!
Just what I’ve been looking for.
I’m gonna make one for every person I know
I wonder if I can find a Captain Planet print to make it in?
Thanks for the wicked pattern!

I guess there’s some problem with the Most Recent category…

Thank you for this great pattern. Here in Germany the reusable grocery bags are established about 20 years ago, but only the ivory cotton one without any design on it.

Great! I will definately make some for myself and my friends.
Over the last two years most big grocery shops in Belgium have stopped giving free plastic bags. They sell reusable bags, but I’d prefere one I made myself now :)

Wow. Thank you so much for posting this pattern. I’ve been wanting to make a few of these for a while now and was hoping to find a pattern somewhere!

Brilliant! I love it! I also intend to make a few for friends – SO much better than anything I’ve seen for sale!

I love the pattern, though I wish there were more detailed instructions on how to line it. The presence of the handles makes inversion trickier for me at least.

I’m a beginner and this was a very easy pattern to follow. I’ve made two bags already. Thanks!!!

I like them for bringing them to the warehouse clubs like Sams and BJ’s you can put alot of your small stuff in them without getting lost or smashed by the big stuff. I used heavy duty washable canvas/duck cloth so that I could wash them easily. All the cashiers admire them since they have never seen anything like them other than their plastic cooler type bags that you have to buy. Thank you for the wonderful post.
