In a subtle pinstripe, the Pleated Shorts make a versatile day-to-night look!

For long days in the city, looks that go from day to night are key. The Pleated Shorts are a classic, tailored style that can go from a professional lunch to after work cocktails. Much as I love pairing a retro bustier or tied up blouse with my beloved cutoffs, sometimes a girl needs to look a little more chic! The Pleated Shorts have plenty of style with front and back pleats and rolled pockets, and the structured details look nice with dressier tops. For my height, I’d make them mini-shorts to get as much leg length as possible, but you could always cut a little more fabric for a casual work look.

These shorts work best in a fabric with a little bit of structure. Make them in a sleek jacquard print, and pair them with a bold, bright top. I am a total sucker for this hot pink. It looks great in the Twisted Tank, and the combination of flowy top and tailored bottoms is always on trend. For a relaxed daytime look, slip on some flats in an equally bright color. For night, switch them out for a heel. I tend to go for statement shoes, like a blue suede pump. Nude strappy sandals are good for flattering your legs, especially with mini-shorts!

Finish your look with classic, urban accessories. Big black sunglasses, a chunky chain necklace, and structured black and white bag will highlight the sharp, tailored look. Bright lipcolors are still in, so don’t be afraid to try a bold mouth next time you’re out on the town!

Happy sewing!

Pleated shorts for a professional lunch! Hysterical! (wiping tears from laughter) No wonder the 20- and 30- somethings in the law office don’t understand that cleavage and thighs aren’t to be hanging out. Such attire may be fine if you work in the fashion industry, but let’s be real – shorts have no business at a professional lunch, no matter what the fabric is or how fantastic your legs are. Now, how about showing some REAL professional clothes?

Love this combo! Was wondering what to do with my dark blue leatherette with reflective rectangles on surface, and this is the perfect start. Thanks!
