Do you ever peer into your closet and say “I have absolutely nothing to wear!”? Skirts are one staple in my wardrobe I couldn’t live without. They are also the easiest garment to make when you’re desperate for a new look! I’ve gotten it down to a science where I can make a simple, high-waist skirt from 1 yard of fabric in one hour. I use my own pattern which has been perfected for my curves and I’ll add slight alterations for the style I’m going for— it’s a pattern that translates easily into many different fabrics so I know I’ll be happy with the outcome.
How do you wear skirts?

I would love to wear skirts more often, long gone are the days when I could wear more or less anything I wanted. Instead they make my bum look a little bigger than I’d like. Pencil skirts would just make me look like a penguin and A – line doesnt do me any favours hehe! Long, ankle length/Monsoon style skirts are about my limit, but I do love them!!ged training ged online

The first thing I learned to make was a skirt. I never wore skirts before this year but now that I can not only sew my own skirts but draft my own patterns and make just about any variety that comes to mind I love them! I love full flowing skirts, nothing more than an inch below the knee – shorter is great – and in different colours and patterns. I’m in love with cotton so I love love love to make cotton skirts! I recently (like today) made my first dress and I love the way the skirt of the dress just flows (I used a knit fabric and made a handkerchief skirt for the dress – http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/vertically-vintage) and I can’t wait to make more styles and variations. For the dress I completely free styled – no pattern really, just figured it out as I went along!!! So proud of that!

I’d love to wear skirts but have such awful legs that I can’t! I also find tights really really uncomfortable, so only wear trousers! :-(
I also fix computers for work, which can involve crawling over or under desks to get to the cabling, so can’t wear skirts for work!

How about wearing leggings under a skirt that’s not too constricting? I live in leggings all throughout the Fall/Winter months. They conceal for one, and are the softest things I’ve ever had against my legs. For me, I’ll probably never wear trousers again!!

Yep, I love skirts! Skirts are my favourite item in summer then I switch to pants for winter. Makes the wardrobe choices very easy. We are just coming into Spring downunder and I’m about to cut out and make a straight skirt out of drill type fabric. Made up this same pattern from Burda 7947 in denim last summer and it was so easy to make and comfortable to wear I just wanted another one.

I grew out of a lot of my skirts and had to make new ones! I almost always wear them with tights in winter, my favourite are my stockings that have runs in them and my dock martin boots. Have to make some more though, but have had very little inspiration with the fabric that’s around currently.

I have the same problem with fabrics in the stores, and then i’ll go and look at vintage fabric, or look on ebay, and voila – I’ll some some stunning fabric that I just cant go past :)

I love skirts too, mainly in summer, since they’re so airy. Last week (during my holiday) made two skirts: both A-line, with separate underskirts. One is just above the knee, with flowers, the other one is black and almost floor-length. Hope to wear both at work… Styling: for the one with flowers, i’ve got my summer set: white shoes, white bag, watch with white wristband, it goes with all summer clothes :-) For the black one, hand-knitted cardigans/boleros and black leather pumps will do…

I’m very short but have long legs, so I wear either floor-length skirts or miniskirts. I like them to be low on my hips. Skirts are a wardrobe essential for me! I’ll wear them with any kind of shoes, from chunky gothboots to sneakers to flats. I like to wear my denim miniskirt with cowboy boots :)

I love skirts. I haven’t actually really made any of my own skirts yet, but I always find ones I love to buy. Only problem is that I find it so hard to find tops that I like to wear with skirts! That’s why I sometimes find dresses easier, because they don’t need a top to match :P
I prefer shorter skirts, because I’m quite short. So, usually a bit above my knee. And I like high-waisted skirts the best, because they make my legs look a bit longer. In winter, I style them with cardigans and tights. It’s coming into Spring here now, so I’m not sure yet how I’ll be styling them for summer!

As a Top, my high bust and waist are about an inch different. So for a twist, I sometimes wear a skirt as a dress or a top.

LOVE love love a great skirt! A-line wraparound is my favorite! Very figure flattering. I just wish I could wear skirts in the winter without freezing and messing with tights. I have a thing for peasant skirts, they can be worn for nearly every occasion and are VERY comfy. I like fuller skirts, although I do love a pencil skirt. My favorite one is a very long nearly floor length green linen skirt. It has served me very well.

skirts…something I haven’t made lately but I have plans in the near future to make a few interesting designs for my etsy shop! I like them to be practical and comfortable, to bring something new as a pattern/in details, to have a shape and length that advantages the shape of the body and legs…in general i prefer them to be above the knee for casual style or long(er) with a deep slit on one leg for occasions… and one trick i remember from childhood when i made my first skirts is to draft the back pattern out of two pieces for a well fitted skirt!

I really love skirts and i wear them all the time. Because of my religious beliefs i only wear long skirts, whether they’re tight, A-line, circle, whatever they’re always long. Reading through the other comments I just got an idea though, maybe i can wear shorter skirts with tights underneath.

i heart skirts!!! Well only when I dont have bruised legs. So fall and winter are actually my favorite time I dont have to worry what my legs look like. Im silly. I love lookbook and all those photos. I just made my first pattern for an aline skirt and it fits awsome. I love high waisted ones the best. In the top right corner is that the Mui Mui kitty cat print skirt?

Great selection from the lookbook! I love skirts too, but for me they almost only come out in winter, or as soon as I can get away with wearing tights :-) I’m not too keen on my bare legs, but a pair of opaque tights takes care of that. I think this winter screams for a longer A-line skirt paired with heeled boots à la cagney and lacey :-)

Skirts and dresses are my STAPLES…I’ll say it in 2003 it was the beginning of the love affair….no one understood why I wore skirts all the time (I’m from a small country town..skirts= dressing up…even denim skirts..I KNOW!). And by the time I finished college (last year) I was literally in skirts 6-7 days of the week. My pants only came out when I ran out of skirts and it was too freezing in San Francisco to even permit sweater tights (but I do brave the elements!)
I love any skirts that come to just above my knee because well I’m 5’3 and anything longer cuts my shape up), minis (I can’t stop wearing them!), pencil, a-line, circle…whatevah I love them all. My favorite thing to do is belt it up. I’m kinda smushed hourglass shape so I need help accentuating…so 90% of the time I wear a skirt or dress it’s belted. And everything is at my waist…low waist things on me look sloppy
whoops this was long. sorry I just love skirts!!

I’m going on a skirt frenzy, I want to wear them all the time, with tights, with flats, just love them. My hit now are high waste skirts.

I’ve grown to appreciate skirts (and dresses) the last year or two. I used to not like wearing them at all. But now I want to wear them all the time. They’re so comfortable, especially on really hot days!
A-line is probably the style skirt that looks best on me — just above, below or at the knee. I like to pair them with as many tops as possible and tights to make them last longer through the year.

I always usually style my skirts high waisted. I love to cinch my waist in as tiny as it will go. I am in love with the Parisian fashion of the 40s and 50s. Hourglass shape!! Dior all the way. Tight and flowy. love it!

It’s my favorite, too! My waist is a bit lower and I have a pouch of extra skin from my last child so they don’t fit as well as they used to. That’s why I have a girdle! I have a natural nearly perfect hourglass figure and LOVE to show off my waist!

I love the look too, unfortunately, my shape is almost straight until you reach my hips :(
However, I do love pencil skirts – I make mine with an invisible waistband, and just past the knees. I used a straight skirt pattern, and just kept taking it in, and in, and in :)

I think skirts (and dresses) look really classy when (if a-line) are about knee-length with dark tights and black, patent leather court shoes. Pencil skirts (not straight skirts) always look classic, the downside is they are awfully restricting … best for sitting-down jobs etc.
