After the whir of the holidays and finally getting all the presents made I have turned my eyes to the future, and by the future, I mean the New Year. It's a great time to start a new, turn over a new leaf and stick to your resolutions, as hard as that may be.

After a year of working here at BurdaStyle, I have decided to actually make more of what I wear. Though there have been missteps (my first 100,000 member T shirt is still kicking around the office) I have learned from them, and am making the pledge to make more and buy less for 2009.

What are your sewing resolutions?

    making pjs and jacket

    Sounds like a good resolution!

I haven't really thought of one and don't usually make them because I never hold to them, but I'd like to sew more and spend more time on my crafts -- such as crochet and scrapbooking.

    Making more school clothes

I've just finished planning my sewing projects for the next year. This way I'm not trying to hurry and make gifts for Christmas at the last minute. I'll be attempting to make myself more clothes and use up a lot of my fabric stash. Wish me luck and Happy New Year to all!!!

This year I'm going to try more ambitious projects. It worked well with knitting last year, so this year I'm going to tackle sewing!! Happy New Year everybody!!!

This year I plan to get the word out to individuals and various local businesses regarding the expansion of my sewing business, "Illuminations": alterations, gowns & bridal. I LOVE doing bridal sewing! Just made 2 veils...and I loved it!!!! Also doing more calligraphy again!!!

    working on a dress

I plan to actually finish all of those sewing projects I have lined up. It's bad when you have a dress that's about half-way finished and it hasn't been touched for 5 years.

    sewing summery things.

I read a lot of sewing blogs, and so I've seen several people make themselves "miniwardrobes" where all the pieces mix and match. So I'd like to try one of those this year. And make myself a pair of jeans that actually fits!!

My goals for the new year (atleast where sewing comes in) are: -Work on my sewing skills (I'm fairly new to it) -Make more of what I wear, and try and re-use as much as possible -Help my bf's little sister with making some of her own clothes (she's 11)

With getting an awesome dress form, rotary cutter and mat...I should be ready to get started with these goals.

Happy New Year! I set goals and plan what I want to accomplish for the year while setting time aside to complete those goals. It's been difficult to find time to sew these last five years with my son being born, being the main provider in the family as well as taking on design school full-time while working 3 jobs. I look back and thank God for carrying me through! With 3 kids, I barely find the time to do alterations and fix ups. But this year, I vow to return to the things I love to do - design and sew. I too want to make more of the clothes I wear and use up the stash of fabrics I've been storing for too long. I have found profound inspiration, passion, and a renewed sense of style being a member of BurdaStyle. Thank you to all the members for your tips and contributions. You all are truly amazing and gifted individuals.
