Yes, you read correctly, August is the best month for fabric hunt. Because: Everyone is traveling, the stores are empty! Benedikta and I are on the side of the travelers: And we love it, because while we are discovering new continents – Benedikta is in Africa, I will be in Italy, we always look out for new and creative fabrics. We'll share this with you when we are back end of August.

In the meantime Nayantara and our intern Janina are alone, so have mercy when your mails are not answered right away and when your comments are left unanswered for too long…

And tell us (we are curious), where did you find your nicest and most precious piece of fabric?

That is great, good for you! I'd like to go to NY and shop for fabric, Italy is the best place for fabric shopping, I'm sure. The best hidden fabric treasures I found in my home town Cluj-Napoca, Romania in a small and dusty Italian shop. I have my mom send me a stash every once on a while. They have the softest jerseys and most unique fabrics I have ever seen. Can’t wait to see what you bring back!

    Sewing jacket lining

I usually have no idea when the nice fabrics come from, because they have been lying in our piles of fabrics at home for ages… but I got nice fabric for my prom dress in a store in Praha-Holešovice, where you can get fabrics for really cheap price. I still have it and if I had enough of it, I'd like to make that skirt for which there’s a tutorial on the offficial Burda site. And they had loads of other nice fabrics in that store, I only had no use for them at that time…

    feisty

great timing! I'm on holiday in America right now and I have literally filled my suitcase entirely with fabric!! Everything just so cheap, I couldn’t resist! And then my grandmother gave me a huge length of navy blue suiting and a bunch of vintage patterns on top of all that! I'm going to be sewing for years to get through this stash. :)

oh yay, squirrellypoo! Isn’t that the best! I received a massive amount of vintage fabrics from a friends mother almost 5 years ago and have barely made a dent in it still! It’s a lot of wools, for suits and coats, which always challenge me, but I think I'll start one in time for fall. Can’t wait to see what you make with your new stuff!

My favorite spot on the map to buy fabric is in the “Jewish Ghetto” in Roma, Italy. The shops are old and I “dig” to find the perfect fabric. The dupioni silks are luxurious with beautiful vibrant colors. The prices are fair as is the honesty of the merchant. The “yard” is a meter, so an extra 3 ½ inches are given. Yeah! I just love to fabric shop.

i got this beautiful sari material like 5 years ago in queens ( ny) i have used it for almost everything ( withouth even cutting it) but last night i decided it was time to make something with it. lol

but other than that, i am lucky enough to work for a company that has a textile divison. so needless to say if i dont get it at 50% off i tend to get it for free.

    Pregnant and veery happy

I like shopping fabrics a lot. When I am in lack I pack myself and visit the capital sity Skopje and a market called"zenski pazar"(women’s market where you can find anything about sewing and knitting or home dekor things and accesories)So,my weekend shoping there usually finishes with lots of fabrics which I sew months after that!Fabric shops there are little and dusty but you could really find interesting things.
