In honor of Wenlan Chia’s new book, Twinkle Sews: 25 Handmade Fashions from the Runway to Your Wardrobe, we are holding a contest to see your best A-line skirt.
The A-line pattern available, Twinkle Sews book, or can be downloaded by visiting BurdaStyle.com. Submissions must be received by October 14th, (11:59 pm EST). Create your variation of the A-Plus, A-Line, and kindly send a photo to submissions@burdastyle.com with the header “A-Plus, A-Line”. Submissions will be put into a slideshow where, Wenlan Chia, founder and designer of Twinkle by Wenlan will then pick her three favorite creations.
Three winners will be chosen:
Grand Prize- Pfaff sewing machine, retail value ($1000), Twinkle by Wenlan sewing fabric, sewing accessories by Coats & Clark, Whish Body Products, and an autographed copy of Twinkle Sews.
2nd Prize- An autographed copy of Twinkle Sews, sewing accessories by Coats & Clark, $500 Gift Certificate from Twinkle by Wenlan.
3rd Prize-An autographed copy of Twinkle Sews, sewing accessories by Coats & Clark.
To provide fair and equal chance of winning to all Twinkle Sews readers, the following are the official rules:
All winners must be 18 years of age or older, unless otherwise stated and/or posted.
The item must be sewn by hand or machine. You cannot enter purchased garments which have been embellished.
1. Entering Contests and Choosing and Contacting Winners
Entries submitted must be submitted by October 14th, 2009. Entrants must send entries using the correct contest entry email address, subject line, and any other specific entry information requested in the contest announcement. Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle is not responsible for and will not consider incomplete or incorrect entries or emails sent but not received by Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle for any reason, as potential contest winners. Winners of all contests will be contacted at the “sender” email address used to enter the contest, and the person receiving and replying to the winner announcement email will be considered the winner unless they specify another person within the reply email as the winner. Twinkle by Wenlan will mail the contest prize to the address supplied by the recipient of the winner announcement email. Only one entry per email address used to send the email will be considered for contest entry, unless multiple entries are specifically allowed in the contest posting. Unless otherwise specified in an individual contest post, no person may enter any contest more than once using multiple email addresses. Claiming of prizes requires an email response to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle from the winning sender email address within 15 days of being notified of winning at the email address used to enter. Failure to respond shall mean that the winner forfeits the prize
2. Submission of photo, text or other content for Contests
Entries selected for display and to win “best of” contests and any other contests requiring photo, text or other content from the entrants will be judged entirely at the discretion of Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle. By submitting any photo or information to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle, you hereby grant to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle and its affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees and assigns, an irrevocable, perpetual and royalty-free right to use, reproduce, edit, display, transmit, prepare derivative works of, modify, publish and otherwise make use of the submitted photo or other information in any and all media, whether now known or hereinafter created, throughout the world and for any purpose. In addition to other things, the rights granted to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle includes but is not limited to the right to resize, crop, censor, compress, edit, feature, caption, affix logos to, and to otherwise alter or make use of the submitted photo; By submitting any photo or information to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle, you hereby represent and warrant that the submitted photo or information does not and shall not infringe on any copyright, any rights of privacy or publicity of any person, or any other right of any third party. You acknowledge and agree that Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle shall have no obligation to post, display or otherwise make publicly available any photo or information submitted by you, and may, in its sole and unfettered discretion, remove, edit, modify or delete any photo or information that you submit to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle; You understand and intend that any photo or information submitted by you to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle may be available for viewing, rating, review and comment on by the public, and understand that comments or ratings with which you disagree or are unhappy about may be published or otherwise become associated with any photo or information you submit to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle. By submitting any photo or information to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle, you hereby waive any privacy expectations that you may have with respect to any such photo or information submitted by you to Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle. Photos or information submitted by you to the Site shall be the property of Twinkle by Wenlan and BurdaStyle, and Twinkle by Wenlan and burdastyle shall have no obligation to preserve, return or otherwise make available to you or others any photos or information so submitted.
3. Awarding Prizes
Each prizewinner must supply Twinkle by Wenlan and burdastyle with his/her legal name, mailing address, birth date, and daytime and nighttime telephone numbers. Winners may not request substitutions of prize winnings. Neither Twinkle by Wenlan, burdastyle, sponsors, nor employees of Twinkle by Wenlan and burdastyle or sponsors may be held liable for any warranty, costs, damage, injury, or any other claims incurred as a result of usage of any winners of a prize once possession has been taken of the product by winner. Management, employees and families of Twinkle by Wenlan and burdastyle are prohibited from winning any prizes awarded by Twinkle by Wenlan and burdastyle. Twinkle by Wenlan and burdastyle reserves the right to alter any rules of any contest at anytime. 4. Judging the Contest
Judging will be conducted by Wenlan Chia; the judging will begin on October 15th. Winners will be announced on October 22nd.

I’m really excited about entering this contest but saw a long string of comments regarding the voting for the Scarf Dress competition. Are there going to be any set guidelines for FAIR VOTING to make sure those who put a lot of time and effort into their work are voted for appropriately?

Yay, I bought fabric today for my entry! I was looking for some lurex/metallic fancy fabric, but went shopping with an open mind and an eye for a bargain… always a thrilling challenge. I ended up with a something that makes me really happy and I got lining to match – all for $18. Now all I need is a zipper and time to get to work.
I like that this contest is being judged by the designer (Wenlan) and that we get to keep our projects secret since we are emailing the entry pictures. I can’t wait to see all the results!

Hiya, this is may a silly question or not… when making our own a-line based on the pattern (for the comp) do we have to stick to the pattern 100% or can you vary it, add something, subtract etc. Decided that I am going to go for it and enter, exciting :)
