OMG I can’t believe those tattoo comments!!! But there are people over there speaking up for you too :) I was just thinking you know, maybe Rachel has tattoos to but you don’t see it because she doesn’t even model the dress. And she wrote she has! I suppose those silly people didn’t think of that. Don’t let them get you down, it says a lot more about them than about you :)

Thanks so much for posting this, Alden! And thanks Spiderlily and ReneeBeth for your comments! It really was a bummer to see the negative remarks about my tattoos in the comments; it felt like a very personal attack. I had the same reaction—it made me appreciate my BurdaStyle community so much more! I feel at home here, and it made me want to be even more active on the site in the future. And by the way, stripes can be intimidating, but I read a great article that helped me immensely. It was called “Strategies for Stripes” in Threads issue #114. You can order it on the Taunton website. Start with some cheap fabric and have fun! Thanks again! xoGertie

I really liked aspects of all three dresses, though I agree that Gertie’s was my favorite. The embroidery on the butterfly dress was so impressive and beautiful to me! (But I’m not a huge fan of butterflies on my clothing, just in the air around me) and the origami dress was a great concept that looked very pure. But my jaw dropped when I saw how Gertie matched those stripes and created that gorgeous pattern in the modified bodice. I feel like a million people have said it before, but it is just such a cool dress and I’d love to wear one like it (maybe I’ll have to hold my breath, get some striped fabric, and be adventurous with matching for the first time!)
And by the way, I was glad so many people stood up for Gertie in the comments forum about her tattoos. I personally thought they went with the dress, but the few negative comments about them were awful. It also makes me happy that in general, the Burdastyle community is accepting and encouraging, a lot of people who look at the sewing and beauty of the garments and know not to make hurtful comments about the bodies that are adorned by them.
Thats all! Thanks for alerting me to this sewstylish link, Burdastyle! I had a great time looking through it. RB
