Can’t believe we don’t have this show in Australia!! have been wondering for a while now how to do smocking thanks soooo much for this segment! will be making a dress this weekend. One question did they just use normal cotton thread for the top stitch and the elastic thread for the botton stitch?

I agree with the first post: upcycling thrift store finds or old t-shirts. Planning my next weekend projects is probably more accurate, as I still have tons to do.

My favorite weekend project is going through my fabric stash that I`ve been hoarding and make a super stylish dress for my two year old. Children`s clothes is fun to make and you don`t have to worry about mixing bold colors together.

I love weekend projects. I feel accomplished in making something while being involved in my family’s busy life. Thank you for the sundress idea. Now I know how to use the elastic thread that has been sitting in my bin.

I’m a beginner/intermidiate, so i’m always trying to use the weekend for improving my skills!!! I can’t wait to make a coat or jacket. But I guess I’ll have to wait a few more weekends.

I usually have more time to sew during the week, but I usually like to do little projects like sachets, little bags, etc. They make great gifts!

Weekend projects that i like is the best of upcycled fashion since i am still a novice in the sewing world, plus i have lots of old things, clothes lying around the house. So, for sure im going to hit my sewing machine to make some simple projects using materials that i already have.

I love busting through unfinished projects that are half way done. Finishing UFO’s at a fast pace boosts confidence and clears the clutter for new ideas!

Weekend projects could be just about anything really if its the right pattern. Even a quilt if its simple enough. It just depends on the weekend.

I think this show was even better than the first one. OMG! I cant wait to sew a smocked dress like that. I hope its as easy as it looks. Learning about the elastic thread and watching them stitch it was priceless. Burda this is such an excellent idea (these little shows with Martha Stewart). I await the next one breathlessly, and I’ll be sorry when they are finished. Maybe this is something that can be permanent? If not with Martha, I am sure there are a host of people who would love to do this little show with their ideas. Thanks!

I like to make hats, but they don’t always take all weekend. I don’t often make sewing projects that take a whole weekend, i either do easy projects that take one day or very complicated projects that take a long time.

I love this idea but was left with some questions which I am certain I can look up and find the answers to but the video left me with these questions:

    1. I know she used elastic thread in the bobbin. . .did she also use it as her top thread? What size needle did she use?

    2. The fabric was 44" wide to make that toddler dress. . . how much do you need for an adult dress?

I really like the way she attached the shoulder straps. And gees this project is so quick and easy. Just perfect! Thanks for the great idea. BTW- I grew up sewing on an old Singer, now have a newer Singer, a Singer serger, and a featherweight. Love them all.

My favorite thing to do on weekends is to clear the cutting table, as well as clear my head, so I can choose one project to concentrate on.

I love doing projects I can finish in a day. I also love cutting out the pattern pieces of upcoming projects. It makes sewing them during the week a lot easier.
