My favorite weekend sewing project is sewing….I work full time and weekends I am free to sew, find new projects to work on and cut fabric out so that during the week I have something to sew in the evening.

I’m also learning so small projects like totes and things that I can build skills with are my weekend projects. That would cover all my projects since I only get to sew on the weekends

Typically it has to be super fast and no pattern, like Tshirt reconstructions. Next I want to make a circle skirt with elastic waist.

Weekends are the time for me to start new projects and to tackle complicated construction details. This leaves easier tasks to be finished on weeknights after school work is done.

On the weekends I like to take on bigger projects, and do the smaller projects during the week. Like I’ll start a dress, and construct the whole thing during the weekend, then during the week I’ll add the buttons, do a zipper, make a belt, etc. I also like to take the weekend to learn a lot of new things. This past weekend I spent my day teaching my friend how to sew and use her sewing machine, and we made an apron together. It was great!

If I have the fabric cut out beforehand, I can completely sew a new dress or jacket over a weekend pretty easily. Then on Monday I feel good because I have something new to wear!

My favorite weekends are when I already have a pattern drafted, fitted and cut, so all I need to do is sew and I can get from flat fabric to finished garment in a few days. I also love hand sewing, so if I have a long stretch of hem or something to do I’ll do that.

I really love altering patterns or drafting my own. It’s a lot of fun and then I can say my idea was truly original. It might take more than one weekend to complete but it’s totally rewarding!!!
