I know that tattoos have caused some controversy in the past, what do you guys think about these sewing related tats?

I have a lot of tattoos. I collect from different artists. Most of mine are flowers. I haven’t really thought of a sewing tattoo… But I like this one quite a bit. I think it would suit me well. But again, tattoos aren’t for everyone.

Wow, I’ve never seen tattoos like those. The closest is my best friend who has a tattoo of a dress form on her back. I’d really love something like these examples (sans gore) if I could somehow incorporate wabi-sabi and/or shibui in a cohesive way…

It’s a beautiful tat…I love the antique look to the scissors!! I love my tat’s and consider them an extension of my personality. I don’t think anyone should get one unless they are absolutely certain about it. Don’t get one just to be cool; get one because you love the art.

I like tattoo related sewing so why not the other way round?! Personally I’ll have to be very confident in my skills before I proclaim my love of sewing in ink… I’ll stick to my henna inspired designs for now.

I love tattoo’s but will don’t think i will ever get one. I don’t see the problem with them it just depends on who you are. Tattoo’s are not for everyone

I’m 16 and all my life ive thought of tatoos as grose things your stuck with forever. but lately ive been thinking the smaller ones are quite beautiful especially in discreet places like inside of wrist/hip etc and in my school art projects ive incorporated sewing things too, so maybe a small sewing symbol of a kind will be the perfect solution for my tattoo q

I actually really love this one! Very clever, great design. It’s super cute! :)

Maybe my next one will be sewing inspired….

I love that tat. I’ve already got a seahorse which is my own design and a maple leaf somewhere else…want to add a mermaid to the seahorse (to keep him company)…maybe a turtle too…

Just the day before having seen this discussion I began considering getting a pair of sewing shears tattooed on my arm! So you can safely say I’m all for it.

If i could afford it YES i totally would. I’ve had one in mind for sometime but haven’t had the spare $$‘s to do it. I already have one but it’s not sewing related.

Personally, it took until June this year to get my ears pierces (and I’m 52!), so tattooing? Not for me! I have friends who have tattoos, and some of them are quite elegant. If I was ever insane enough to do something like this, it would have to be sewing related.

I am with you though I only waited till I was 38 to get my ears pierced ( my clip on earrings fell off onto the ice whilst in a competition !! ) The featured tattoo might make an interesting appliqued/ quilted design ??

Interestingly I’ve never thought of getting a sewing-themed tattoo! But it makes perfect sense – they represent your passion and can be quite beautiful and imaginative.

I will actually be getting a sewing themed tattoo shortly. They’re a small tribute to my grandmothers, they both sew and quilt. One of my grandmothers just passed away and in one of her quilts was a detail that most people wouldn’t see. It was a butterfly stitched into the fabric that goes around the blocks. It’s a very geometric shape, but is perfect. So I’ll be getting the stitched butterfly on both my inner wrists.

I’m not keen on the gory ones or needles piercing the skin (they give me the creeps because I’ve done it by accident so often, lol) but I love the ones that are designed as an expression of someone’s passion for sewing. Especially the ones with vintage sewing machines :)
